Re: Azores again....

Justin,

It seems that we are sorted on this.
The base where we will be staying promised to arrange this if weather permits.
Too many people in the water....well...we simply need to take turns then.
I doubt that we need to pay that much.

Yes....without any preliminary arrangements this could cost much more.

Cheers,
Mikko

EDIT: Seems that this 700 figure was pretty close after all.....
Good bit is that these boats should be able to transport up to 12 people.
That would come to some 60-70E a pop...nay bad for the trip if you ask me.:EDIT

Re: Azores again....

Will do...naturally.
We should have one or two pretty experienced cameramen with us, so...
Also planning on shooting some video there too.

Cheers,
Mikko

Re: Azores again....

Mikko,

Thank you very much for the offer! I was seriously considering it but with my second child due on May 26, there’s probably about a 0% chance my wife would let me go.

David,

I agree with you, I certainly wouldn't want a World Spearfishing Championship held in my backyard fishing grounds.

Re: Azores again....

I know this an old post but, A buddy and I have had enough of 0 degrees and no fish in denmark. So we are taking a trip in feb to some clear water. We where thinking about azores? I know the water is cold but that is no problem for us we are pretty used to that! What we need is good viz and nice fishing. Not nessersary a lot of fishes beacuse we only shoot like one or two fish every day for dinner. I would be nice if there were AJ´s
Would azores be good, or ar there any other suggestions?

best regards johan

Re: Azores again....

Hi!

February is way too early for AJ's in Azores as far as I know.
I think that the only game fishes around at that time are bigeye and bluefin tuna.

Cheers,
Mikko

Re: Azores again....

Weather's not too good over there at this time of year, very windy and wet!

Re: Azores again....

It's so so.....
I have heard some very disturbing reports from there.
Too many bubblies there these days.
It is a huge risk to go out there just to notice that a diving charter parks next our boat and throws out lot of bubblies. We all know how pelagic predators like about that.
As far as I know all the worth mentioning game fish has been speared around the central group lately. I have heard no good reports from Alice. If someone has anything on this, please do share.

We have made a decision to assess the situation once there. The possibility is certainly there, but we really need to see how the odds are at that time.

Other than that, all looks pretty good. Boaties/boats arranged. One of these blokes used to spend his childhood on a tunaboat.....he is said to be a master of spotting tuna schools. :-) *sharpens APEX shafts*

More than tuna, I'm looking forward to possibly landing a big wahoo. They should be arriving at those times and will be after some grub for sure. It would be great to have some dorado action too but I'm a bit sceptical about that as the water may be a tad too cool at that time. Good warm current may however bring them in.

AJ's and shads will be around for sure, and especially shad will make coast launches worthwhile.

Something I'm very much looking forward to.

Cheers,
M
