The best preparation for CIPA Open 2005

Hi !

I shall take part in the CIPA Open (28-29 May 2005) and am looking for some advice ;

This year, I had nearly no experience of depth... I went once in February to the diving pit (20 m) and could quite easily descend with no fins to 20 m...

Last year my PB was 25 m (constant weight and sled) ; I feel I could easily have reached 30 m last year...

I train twice a week in a swimming pool... I did some comps (STA 3'33" ; DYN 71 m ; DNF 56 m) ;

Taking into account all this, a reasonable target for my first comp in constant weight seems 30 m ;

I should be very happy if I reach 35 m...

The least I can do to save my honour is 25 m...

I am arriving in Nice on the preceding week end (21-22 May) ; till there no opportunity whatsoever to dive deep...

At the best I shall be in Nice the 21-22 May, and at the worst from the 23rd...

I got registered to the 2 previous trainings (26-27 May) but I have then a first question : is it sound to train for constant weight the two preceding days ? Isn't it better to allow for some recuperation ?

I will try to train in the sea on the preceding week end but it is not sure that I find a room available (because of the Grand Prix de Monaco)...

Then I intend to train on the 23-24-25 May...

The main challenge for me is my ears... My left ear was aching a little bit in the swimming pool this morning... (http://forums.deeperblue.net/showthr...523#post539523) ;

What should I do on the 23-24-25 May ? How can I prepare best my ears to depth ?

Are there special exercises I can do from now on to train to constant weight without access to a diving pit ?

Thank you for your help ...

Re: The best preparation for CIPA Open 2005

Go to Nice as soon as possible and dive as much as you can with CIPA. Focus on relaxation and don't progress too fast. Take 2m a day.

Since you have to be home I'd suggest doing exhale statics on land and practise equalizing techniques. You can do empty lung diving in the pool but make shure you got safety backup.

See you there...

Re: The best preparation for CIPA Open 2005

I will be in Nice the 21/5 evening.

I suppose it's possible to train with CIPA during the week.

I registered for the trainings of Thursday 26th and Friday 27th...

I am afraid it might be a bit too close to the comp, mightn't it ?

Probably there will be trainings the week end before (80% chances according to François) ;

for Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, it is not so obvious that CIPA can organize training sessions since the preparation of the comp will require all their efforts...

anyway, I will be lodging in Nice close to the Negresco and shall swim from the beach...

where will you be ? at the Maison du Séminaire ?

Varifran ar Du ?

Do you already have a training schedule for the week ? Are you training with the CIPA before the 25th of May ?

hmm what is the theoretical constant depth , Dyn and DNF , if person can easily reach 5' static and personal best is 6'11'' ?

regards

a reasonable method for comparing is the performance index ; you divide your perf by the corresponfing WR...

example : 6'11" corresponds to a performance index k = 6:11/8:58 = 0.690 ;

then the corresponding perf in DYN = 200 X 0.690 = 138 m

the corresponding DNF = 166 X 0.690 = 114 m

the corresponding CWT should be : CWT = 103 X 6'11"/8'58" = 71 m ...

you might be surprised at this depth because you probably have compensation problems which stop you before your "apnea" limits... if you do less than 71 m, most probably, you are not out of breath when you emerge...

Not a bad idea at all....
Works more or less for me, for the pool.
Not for the depth stuff, but it is too different.

Hi Remi,

How are you ? I'll be in Marselle at the Calanques' and in Nice from the 15th to the 22th of July...

See you there...

For me :

STA 3'33" gives k = 3'33"/8'58" = 0.396 ;

then my theoretical DNF should be : 166 m X 3'33"/8'58" = 65.7 m ; in Nice I did exactly 65 m !

my theoretical DYN should be : 200 m X 3'33/8'58" = 79.2 m ; in Clermont I only did 71 m but it was the second max with fins I ever did in my life... ; I feel I could easily reach 80 m...

my theoretical CWT should be : 103 m X 3'33"/8'58" = 40.8 m ; my last (and first) CWT dive in comp was 26 m, due to compensation problems... ; but I felt I had plenty of air... ; once my compensation problems solved, I feel 40 m is within reach...

I am fine thanks, hopping to catch a few bass this week-end in Wales

I wish I could go to Marseille, but I can't that week-end.

And I think I won't be abble to dive in Nice in July because of a bad timing, I should be diving from Monaco instead I think
