Enter at the first (very small) car park which is up a bank over the shore. Go in straight ahead over the rocks (they are slippy!) When your in head diagonally right you will find some reefs almost straight away these hold schoolie bass most of the time usually where they meet the sand with the occasional big one and odd mullet. After Ive covered these reefs as far as the old wrecked boiler I head out to the left hand point of the bay, here is occasionally bass, mullet, red mullet and dogfish, from here i then swim straight across the bay to the right hand headland which holds the same, after that i swim towards the main sandy beach diving the gullies to the right and the sand which holds various flatties finally heading back to where i got in and diving the first reefs again. I also dive outside the bay and some other local areas.. details of which im gonna keep to myself for now!
Thanks, Thats more than enough for me to be getting on with!!

Best of luck and stay safe, my personal diving horror episode happened not far from there!

Re: Cornwall 2008.

Lol... Think its elsewhere on the forums but..
Last year was diving Looe Island, in the shallows round the stringweed, had a couple of cuttle fish and 3 decent bass. There was a chap and his kids in a speed boat that were passing me regularly, I had my float (and its a big one) with flag up plus I was in amongst rocks and weed and the driver had waved at me earlier so I wasn't too worried. However I surfaced from a dive to see the boat heading my way at a rate of knots, dived under again and too the side but when I surfaced was hit by somthing from behind, across one leg and base of my back. Turns out the boat was towing a skier who was now in the water besides a very surprised me. Well the boat turned around picked up the fallen skier and buggered off! I was a bit battered with a split wetsuit and some superficial cuts, not to mention my float line was snapped and I lost my stringer!! Got out on the island and luckily some fishermen who saw what happened gave me a lift in to harbour. Apparently the boat owner had used my float as a nice mark to spin the boat around. Well remainder of the story goes along the lines of me finding said boat owner and some violence ensued unfortunately after that police became involved, anyway long story short I was fine and after a bit of a battle police charged the boat owner.
Floats are a great idea but no help against complete idiots.

Re: Cornwall 2008.

There wasn't any vis on the north coast near Padstow on Sunday if that helps. Went in on the South coast near Praa yesterday evening and despite the wind and chop the vis was fine there were a few fish about too but nothing in my range..........again.

Re: Cornwall 2008.

Just spotted the story of the speedboat. Ickledevil You wre lucky to have got off so lightly! I coach kids sailing and last year an 11year old lost his leg to a propeller in plymouth.

I must admit I dont generally use a float in the sound as it does attract the w****rs on jet skis who slalom round them.

Re: Cornwall 2008.

Yeah was lucky on more than one count unfortunately our legal system gave me a bit of a hammering as well but thats a story best not encouraged, must admit floats have definately saved more than they have caused problems for but you always get some idiot down for the weekend in their ebay special and no clue of what they are doing. Once got half pulled up by my float line as an inquisitive fisherman thought i might be a lobster pot! lol mind you changed floats since then and think he might have had to change trousers after the shock of me surfacing instead of a pot! lol

Re: Cornwall 2008.

ickledevil, I got hit by a jetski a couple years ago, in a comp (diving with Spearo Dave), so there were 40 or so floats and flags in the water, I had back problems for a year after that...... Apparently it was my fault for being in the water! They ignored my plea to go off shore because of all the other divers in the water and used them as target practise! land lovers on over powered machines that they can't handle. The UK should make boat drivers pass a test before they are allowed on the water.

Last year Dad and I nearly got hit by a 12 seater white water power boat off Bill point at Portland.... we even knew the guy, but again, even with floats and flags, it was our fault for being in the water!

I'll get of my high horse now - but those idiots in boats really should understand how to handle the things and know what different floats mean!!!!!

And, Yes, before anyone asks, I do have a boat and would be more than pleased to have to pass any tests before I took it out!

Re: Cornwall 2008.

ps - never really had any problems with commercial fishermen.... they seem to know what they are doing.... even had one check I was OK the other week, he told me what he was doing and where he would be fishing. I helped one commercial out the other year who got a rope wrapped round his prop in a ragging tide...

Re: Cornwall 2008.

You're not wrong Clive. The commercial fishermen treat other 'users' of the sea with respect and if you don't take the piss, i.e. stealing from pots, they can be helpful and informative. The idiots we have to worry about, mainly, are the weekend t**ts on high powered jet-skis or in fancy speedboats who don't even know what a diver flag means!
