Essential, Unplanned Security Maintaince

The DeeperBlue.net Server is going under essential and unplanned security maintaince. During the next 7 days the server may be unavailable at certain points.

UPDATE - Monday 1st November 2004

The security maintaince is still going on. This is due to the fact the DeeperBlue.net Server has been compromised by a Hacker and has been trying to launch large scale "Denial Of Service" (DOS) attacks from our server.

This is obviously a situation we do not want to be in and are working hard with our service provider to rectify this issue as quickly as possible.

At present we have had to tune down features on the server, the main impact of which is the fact that members are no longer able to post images or pictures. We apologise for this and hope to have the situation rectified as soon as possible.

Thanks for the support folks.

It's mighty frustrating I can tell you. It takes days to rebuild servers with the amount of software on as DB - costs a small fortune in consulting fees and keeps me working all night getting things back into ship-shape condition.

Ah well - such is life

Incidentally - just spoke to the Service Provider and we are moving to a new server which should speed the whole site up.

Just following on from the news on moving to a new site - we will be experiencing several bouts of downtime during the next 7 days as we migrate individual sites and ensure they are secure.

Update - Friday 5th November 2004

The new server is now online and we are starting work on migrating all sites to the new server. There will be downtime on all sites for short periods, with the exception of the forums which will require several days of work. We will be upgrading the forums at the same time to help prevent further attacks.
