It's been three weeks so I decided to give Babbacombe a go today. Viz was variable - sometimes I could see the end of my spear, sometimes I couldn't! Saw a few small Pollack and Bib and that was all but it was good to get wet again and see how much the water has cooled down (not too much yet).

sounds good. Any pictures? I wonder about that area in a swell. I only shore dive and although places like Thurlstone seem to be able to handle a foot or two of swell I wondered it would be better further out. The winds are set to be easterly for a bit, is it worth going over? I haven't yet tried the 'Books' at Thurlstone, which is easily swimmable from the beach (for a young pup), any good in the current conditions?
Saw a scan of my melon the other day and saw the extosis in my ear (boney growth). Booked in for surgery in 3 months time, must get some diving done before being dry docked. The observant ones out there will notice I have now moved to Exeter. Anyone want to get wet? ![]() |

My first ever outing with a speargun was to The Books. I saw (and missed) quite a few bass but have never got around to going back. In a calm sea it was an easy swim with no current problems at all. I must go back sometime when work and weather permit

jez, bigbury bay this weekend is looking good for wind, swell is still 4ft at 10 seconds on sat, dropping sunday so inshore may be a tad murky, you may find thurlestone sands murky as lots of soil/dust in the sand, try hope cove or yarma (more reef and rock, less sedement) or the books mid tide pushing. a kayak trip from hope cove to bantham would be a good bet, stay tucked in under cliff out of wind. get in at first light when things are still active.
