Re: South Devon Report 2008

Scottwilson flatties tend to spawn in march so they may not be in good condition plus keep an eye on future stocks theres plenty of time yet.Check out last years Dorset thread to see when we all caught flatties could give you an idea of time.Flattie bashing is easier at low tide.

Re: South Devon Report 2008

I’m not so sure I’d be brave enough to stick a spear into a flaty that could crush a Scallop shell.

Scottwilson good luck with the Flat Fish hunt mate and I hope you get a good un.

Re: South Devon Report 2008

Dived Thurlestone yesterday on the tide up. surface viz was rubbish but 6 meters down it cleared up nicely. saw some bait fish swimming around but nothing else.

the wind was strong which made the already cold water feel like ice. I spoke to 2 divers who were gearing up when I got out and they swear theve seen bass there recently but i think they were just having some fun with me

Not a bad dive and you can park at the bottom of the hill now until May so theres no long walk up. I also got a chance to try out my " new " camera mount for the camera which goes on the top of my mask giving a nice view of what ever I look at. Although is does look stupid with a yellow camera stuck on my head

Re: South Devon Report 2008

No i don't use ankle weights Scottwilson i just brought what i thought were heavier fins. This has helped me but i could be talking arse!

I had a pair of Cressi Gara 2000 fins first which i struggled with, then i had a pair of Picasso Black Team Camo fins which were better for me.I have now ordered a pair of H.Dessault Performance fins which should be the dogs bits.

I don't like the thought of ankle weights as i already have 24lbs between the vest and belt.

Re: South Devon Report 2008

i am tempted by the setec vest. Are the straps adjustable? I saw someone wearing one and it looked quite big on him and he had to tie the straps together at the frount to keep it on.-

Re: South Devon Report 2008

dived for an hour after work today to test my "new" torch out. the viz was very good at 4 to 5 meters, water was warmer today then it was over the weekend.

saw a few wrasse swimming around and some crabs scurring about , there definitely seemed to be more life about. I reckon give it another month and the mackeral will start to come in and all those loverly bass should soon follow.

I think i seen that somone also.
I use the strap at the front to keep it from sliding around when walking about with it on. When in the water it fits perfectly.
