Decent spots near Torquay?

Hi there

I'm heading down to Torquay this weekend for a couple of days, Although I'm there quite often I've never managed to take my gun and kit with me, but hopefully I should be able to this time.

Does anyone know of any good spots? I stay with my mother in law who lives quite close in Babbacombe and figured this would be a good place to start looking. any ideas?

Thanks

Re: Decent spots near Torquay?

Had a early morning plugging in the boat,i was suprised by the viz, very clear in places.if i had the dive gear i would of been in.Had a few bass plugging but its not the same as in there after them.I went in for a bite to eat,put the fish in the fridge then grabed my dive gear.Well you wouldnt of thought it was the same spot, the viz was shocking.I did have a good look around and found the odd spot with 3/4 metres viz,i came upon a few decent size bass but was on top of them before i seen them, they were gone with the flick of a tail. The first 1 i went to shoot the safty was on,which was strange becuase its super glued in the off position.I then came upon a nice shoal lying in some patchy kelp, not easy to get a shot off, they moved off slowly i stayed still on the bottem and they came back,i took the easiest shot and bagged a 4pounder,he was probaly tha smalliest of the shoal. After that i had trouble loading the gun and when i did it wouldnt fire again,i had a nice bass circling me at the time.I had a spare gun but some distance away in the boat.I called it a day and made for home. Will try again tomorrow on the high tide the viz was a lot better.

Nice report shiny!

When you haven't been in a good long report is nearly worth being there!

PS Went out in my new boat today and found a spot 129ft deep in torbay, blew me away catching whiting in August.

Re: Decent spots near Torquay?

I ended up having a couple of dives off a really nice little beach that I'd never been to before, even though I've driven past it a hundred times. Great setup, nice kelp beds but no bass... I saw loads of small Mullet, some small Pollock, and small Whiting as well. I've got a freezer full of fish from some recent fly fishing so I wasn't too bothered, although it's hard to beat fresh Bass.

It was nice to see some fish but the vis definatly wasn't as good as it looked from the shore, really green, I guess there must be a lot of plantton in the water at the moment.

I'll give it another go at the weekend I guess, I think the weather is forecast to be alright for a change.
