I work on a 2 weeks on 2 weeks off rotation, and recently at work we’ve been fairly quiet so I decided to start making myself a hawaiian sling to keep myself busy. So far I have a handle / tube rigged up out of three bits of PVC pipe. One is the inner “spear tube” which is two bits of PVC with one forced inside the other and bonded at the ends, and the other is a larger piece for the actual handle. Then I’ve used 6 small stainless screws to mount the guide tube inside so it appears to be floating, whacked some heat-shrink over this and now it just needs some surgical tubing attached.
I also managed to make myself a spear too. The stainless rod I found was only 0.5 of an inch shorter than the specs I found on the net for this project so I’d say it’s basically perfect. Filed him up to a nice point and drilled my hole and now I am attempting to manufacture a single flopper out of half an alligator clip. I’ve made myself a nice carry tube too, so I can fly my spear home too I’ll try and get some pics up when I can. |
