Re: Dorset Spearfishing

I plan to take my 10 year old son diving tomorrow.... Therefore I need shallow clear water with Mullet in! Am planning on Sandsfoot Castle or Ringstead or Osmington, anyone know what the viz is like in these places at the moment? (failing that I'll try Chesil and down to Tar rocks in the shallows)...thanks in advance. Clive.

Re: Dorset Spearfishing

Went in on Thursday afternoon off the Portland Bill (Pulpit rock) Vis Started off great 10m+ Then reduced as we got round to the cranes. Load of mullet about and a few Bass upto 3lb.

Red pool ( Down by the beach huts ) might be a good place to take your lad if the wind drops off. If not try Newtons cove ( park Brewers quay carpark ) The vis always look poor but gets better as you get out to the yellow bouy.

The vis in the harbour at the moment is not that great.

Went diving today With Jeremy to Budleigh, weather was good beach packed with people and some boats floated around the reef. wiz was about 6-10feet and as usual Budleigh delivered. Jeremy harvested.
Thank you for a ride dude, it was great to go diving and get home before it got dark!

Nice bass Pekka... It must be cool having nice waters so close to home. Devon through to Cornwall has got to be the clearest waters in the UK.

Re: spearocam 2, I'd just like to point out that though it wasn't a bass it was one good clean head shot, though I say so myself!!!!!

Re: Dorset Spearfishing

Pekka, Bank Holiday coming up and i've got next week off too . Looks like winds could be onshore At Budleigh for the weekend, but keep an eye out. Hope the rain doesn't turn the river brown! If it's looking pants we could try Hopes Nose, seen bass on all my dives there .

Re: Dorset Spearfishing

Anybody diving Dorset on monday??? This thread seems to have been very quiet recently.Maybe it's just the bad weather we've been having but the fish must be there some where and you can't catch them from the sofa!!

Re: Dorset Spearfishing

Went in off portland bill on monday, vis was variable at best and after a short while found all the bass and fair sized mullet hiding under the thick kelp beds.Even with a 75 gun it was very hard to track the fish and get a clear shot.Tried a few shots but missed them all After next drift the reason the fish were hiding became clear,it wasn't me it was a large seal Bugger the end of another fishing season no point trying with one of natures best in competition.

Re: Dorset Spearfishing

Went out of Sandsfoot today with a student and he caught lots of scallops, an ok Bass and a nice gilt head bream... Viz was not great but better than Chesil. All the fish were down a bit deeper ( 10-15 ) but its such orible viz is almost not worth it. Clive, give me a call as your fine tuition is needed for a couple of weekends in September if you can. B

Re: Dorset Spearfishing

Went for a snorkel at Ringstead Bay on Monday, vis wasn't brilliant and only saw a couple of spear-worthy mullet. There were a couple of Spearos down there and i advised them to try the smaller reef in the left hand bay and around the boats, but they came back empty handed. The only thing of interest i spotted was a decent sized lobster and a couple of (non-spider) crabs... in a pot, at least someone would have had something to eat that night! How long do people think the season will last? I'm planning to keep getting in until maybe early october, is this realistic?
