Re: Dorset Spearfishing

No they are not deep 6-10m and you can normaly get 2-3 each dive. Ask fly flicker to take you to them.. Only take the big'uns though. 10cm+ across the shell.

Re: Dorset Spearfishing

Hello,

my brother and myself (we are based in London) would like to go fishing this sunday along the coast in Dorset. I have been to Lulworth last December but the weather was bad and the visibility even worse.
I was wondering wheter anybody can recommend a nice place for spearfishing where the visibility is not too bad, with some fish around and without a strong current.

Thank you very anyway

Fabio

Fabio

The weather looks good for the weekend...

Why not have a look at Ringstead - very good ground and may have a few flatties about..

Or west to Osmington (very handy for the Smugglers Pub!)

Or Bowleaze Cove (Preston) -- head east towards Osmington and there is excellent ground. BUT watch out if the pesky jet skiers are about!!

Good luck...

Re: Dorset Spearfishing

Thank you very much, flyflicker!! We will try Bowleaze Cove and let you know the way it goes!!! By the way, do you know anything about the tides? My understanding is that it is good around and after low tide (that is the case in Guernsey, at least).

Cheers

Fabio

Re: Dorset Spearfishing

Low tide is 13:27 so it will be low for most of the day, plenty of deeper water off Redcliff point, if that takes your fancy.

Water temp is fine, 15 today - bath water!!

I was planning to go tomorrow. Although the poor visibility you mention sounds ominous. Any suggestions on where to try...or not try under current conditions? It is a fair drive & the days are quite short now, so any pointers would be appreciated. I will be diving alone.

Re: Dorset Spearfishing

well don't go to Swanage as it is going to be Easterly wind and yesterday the sea was very murky, we caught a lot of bass off Christchurch with rod and line, (lures) they are about and a good size 2 pounds average, Sue

Re: Dorset Spearfishing

An easterly blowing at the moment.

I was in Portland Harbour vis not good -- end of spear in some places..

I have also heard that Chesil Cove was also as bad - - which means the omens aren't good for you

I'm not sure how Ringstead / Osmington / Lulworth etc. will be, but I would imagine they would be your best bet....

Even saying all this, it was still good being in the water

Pity, I was hoping Chesil Cove might offer shelter from the Easterly wind.
Re. Lulworth -- is the cove itself worth fishing... or are the seaward edges the place to go?

I am bringing a handline & a small spinning rod in case things don't work out!
