RE: Dancing Ledge
I’d like to try dancing ledge and from memory (having also been climbing there), getting down onto the ledge itself is pretty straight forward and the water is readily accessible from there. Other than the state of the tide, the wind is a major factor in getting in and out as it can get pretty rough down there and soft body/hard rock interaction would be a distinct (and bone crushing) possibility. Saying that, the ledge does have a couple of 'sides' so one should be in the lee of the worst of the swell. I think the distance from the nearest place to park the car maybe more of an issue (more so on the way back as no doubt it'll be up hill!), I'll have a look on an OS map and get back.

Re: Dorset Spearfishing

If dancing ledge dosen't come off for any reason then maybe ringsted would be a good second choice. You do have to pay to park but if we only take a couple of cars should be ok.The walk to the beach is flat and there is a couple of reefs there with sand in between.

As for DON'T MISS TIP best advise yet

Re: Dorset Spearfishing

The key to getting out at dancing ledge is if you can still park at Spyway Barn as this cuts down the walk by about 60% to about a half mile. Has anyone been out that way recently? If not then Ringstead sounds good or has anyone tried Durlston Bay?

Re: Dorset Spearfishing

Glowworm, here is a map which has Spyway Barn on it (right at the bottom), the car park marked is the closest although you did used to be able to continue to the barn, no idea if you still can though! The other map shows dancing ledge, i'm pretty sure Spyway barn is the closest you can get in a car. As for Durlston Bay, Dive Dorset makes it sound pretty simple to get in, i can't remember if i've been there myself though...

Durlston Bay is full of huge Lobsters - I've dived there several times with Cylinders.

Very nice fish Clive. Mr Bradshaw fishing with you still? I take it that's a Portland Bass? Any gilt-heads this year yet?

Re: Dorset Spearfishing

When I ended up at Tilly Whim the other day, we were trying to find the way in to Durlston...took these pictures from up top as that was as close as we got. The only route we spotted seemed to be to walk down the grassy area above the car park next to Swanage Pier and down towards the headland.
P.S. That is a NICE bass! Dribble on the keyboard!!!

Regards

Re: Dorset Spearfishing

PS I've not seen any guilt heads yet this year... didn't see any last year either. Just the odd Black bream at the moment.
