Is it possable to over equalize?Ihave alot of trouble clearing my ears some days better than others usually i get stuck about 7meters.Yesterday while spearfishing i came across a guy in a kayak fishing he told me his anchor was stuck.I said i would have a go to free it but could not promise anything,i dived in my mind i was thinking i doudt i will get there before i know it i am on the botton freeing the anchor i looked at my watch 13.7meters.Throught the dive i know i equalized but i dont know how much as i think i was thinking about the anchor more,is it possible i have been overpressurizing my ears therefor getting stuck around 7 meters.I have been diving alot slower lately any help would be apprecieated thanks russell

I don't think you can over equalize. You can hold your nose right now and blow and that will get more pressure in your inner ear that it is outside so that would be the opposite of equalizing. But I don't really think about equalising, if I have my noseclip I just keep on slightly blowing all the way down, that keeps my ears just fine. If I am on a mask I just keep one hand on the mask and the other I have it in front of me in a Superman pose.
Easy does it, you shouldn't feel the pain before equalising, you should keep on equalising all the way down, I personally start at 2m but it depends on the person. |

I ran into the same problem when I was scuba diving. I was holding my nose very tightly and blowing extremly hard. It only made things worse for me
I cannot wait to test out the proper technique of letting some air out (when using a mask, I think the reason for this is to equlize the mask as well) then slowly breathing out of your nose. |
