Dynema Wishbones

I want to convert from an articulated wishbone to dynema.My gun is rigged with dynema instead of mono and i am a real convert.After 1 shots incident that led to his articulated wishbone breaking and doing horrible damage to the rubbers i don't want that to be my fingers.

Now i would like advice on which size dynema,crimps and a good crimping tool.
Any pictures showing how it's done would be great.

glow, i have a slightly different suggestion for you to consider, instead of using dynema as shooting line try monofilament, in my opinion its much better, get the 1.6mm mono from spetton and the spetton crimps, you will also need a crimping tool (all three of these items are sold at subprof.com) I would imagine that dave (spearo.co.uk) would also have a similar solution..
for the wishbone, picasso sells dynema wishbones that would directly fit on threaded bands (no tools needed), they also sell that at subprof.com..
i would recommend a third option try the beuchat tahiti wishbone (also sold at subprof) this is my favourite, its metal so engages the spear notches very well, its not articulated (no hinges), its not sharp (i could easily grip it when loading), its also designed in a way that when loaded, it keeps the bands slightly to the sides so you easily remove your fingers out of the way...i find this the safest and most reliable option...

Marwan i used to have all my guns strung with mono but i found the mono had a memory of where they bent around the muzzle and this caused weak spots and breakages.I have seen the dynema wishbones from Picasso so i might try them as well.I still need to get some dynema and crimps plus tool for my spare spears.

Mawan, for many years I used dynema as my running line before converting my guns to mono however I have been thinking about changeing a gun back to braid. I dont seem to remember haveing so many tangles with dynema!

A good point Foxfish i've never had any tangles with dynema.I'm not too sure about braid though as it has no strech so even with a bungee it could snap under the force of the dark side

Just to satisfy my own curiousity, what size/strength mono did you use?

well i tried the dynema route on shooting lines, it used to get chaffed up on the spear hole where you tie it up, to the extent that the line once broke as i shot and the spear could have hit someone... i also find the thin dynema harder to handle underwater especially with gloves...my C4 was rigged with dynema and i didnt like it i switched to mono. i do acknowledge the points about memory and breakages,but i never got to experience it with the 1.6 or 2.2mm dynema ( which i normally use), maybe on the thinner ones...

Bill i can't remember what size or strength as the guns were rigged by my local dive shop at the time with kits that were Cressi.

The guns are a 75cm and a 90cm abd i even had to modify the muzzle of the 75 to allow the line to sit in properly.

on the wishbone part, i think that the picasso could be a good solution, i'm not sue if the standard euro spears would chaff it up or would you need to maybe file the notches a bit to make them smoother, i still feel the beuchat tahiti is the safest choice from all the wishbnes i tried

Marwan i think your right about the picasso wishbones.I'm quite lucky with the quality of the Dassault spear as it is top quality.

As a dyneema wishbone: 2 or 3 millimeters (and why not a double loop. and don't forget to file the notches of the shaft).
As a shaft/reel line 1,5/3mm, depends on terrain, type of hunting, power of the gun. A thicker line can affect negatively the accuracy, a thinner line can get cut on rocks or break under fish reaction et cetera.

I use 3 mm Spectra core (dynema) wishbones and like them very much. They outlast the rubber for sure.

I just use a single overhand knot in the end, and use a constrictor knot in the whipping twine, and they never pull out.

OK so what about crimping dynema? Will they cut through any faster than mono?
