Problem with tigger mech on Omer HF

I need help regarding the trigger mech for the Omer HF. I am heading out for a spearing trip next week and was changing the mono when I noticed that the spear will not engage in the triggering mech.
When I shake the handle something rattles so I figure something has disengaged. I need to get into the trigger mech in the handle and see if I can fix the problem. Complete bummer!
Thanks in advance for your help!

Don't do anything, my advise. The speargun is under warranty and you may have it replaced from teh shop where you bought it.

Re: Problem with tigger mech on Omer HF

I got the gun in France and I am in Japan!
Sent a mail to Omer and will wait to see what they say.
Will also get in touch with the shop that I bought it, I hope I still have the invoice etc.

By the way thanks for the reply, Spaghetti!

Can't believe it! We are heading off to get some dog fin tuna. Friend got a 40kg fish about a month ago. Thought that the 100 would be too small but would give it a go and see how it went and now it looks as if it won't even make it there! Sod's law!

Last time went for amber jack took one gun and was in the water for 30 mins and snapped the spear! No spare!

Re: Problem with tigger mech on Omer HF

You're the first one I hear having issues from Cayman trigger: jolly unfortunate!
In your situation, I'd try to fix it myself: the rattling thing you hear is probably the spring of the "tooth". If you have a clear idea of how a trigger mech works (I can't explain in words, but they're quite all the same), I guess you can repair it by yourself. But after this, do some testing in safe conditions and with all the attention for eventual accidental firing.
And anyway, when you'll be back from the trip, mail Omer for replacing your gun.
Sorry for that

I can't find the cayman trigger, but have this link, scroll down this page and see the omer Excalibur trigger how it's made. It's different than the Cayman, but will help you understand the concept of speragun trigger if necessary

Re: Problem with tigger mech on Omer HF

Hello Spaghetti,
Thanks for that information. I might have a go at fixing it myself but am looking to borrow a gun at the moment, if I get one I will just send the gun to either the shop or Omer. If not I will give it a try and see what I can do with the trig.
Once again thanks for your help!
Cheers,
adon

Re: Problem with tigger mech on Omer HF

You should disasemble it yourself , and try to repair it, Omer has exellent warranty, but it seems you are far away from help.
First you should look for the problem, take the mono away from the spear, and try to engage it again, since it seems it was working fine before you made the mods.
Whatever you do, be careful when loading it, since it could be dangerous.

Re: Problem with tigger mech on Omer HF

Hello,
I received a reply from Omer and there was a problem in the first run of the line release, which they have since modified. They will be sending me a new line release mechanism, so once that comes I will replace the defective part. I am still not sure on how to get the trig mech out of the gun.
It looks like it is held in with three pins. Does this sound correct?
Cheers,
hideo

IMHO it's not worth trying to fix the trigger yourself, it's an accident waiting to happen. You can mail order a replacement trigger for your gun here for 13 eurobucks:

Thanks for the link. I will see if I can get the trig mech from them, but I will wait and see what exactly Omer send me.
Thanks to everyone for your input.

Re: Problem with tigger mech on Omer HF

Hi Adon,

The problem with your trigger mechanism is not a problem per se. If I should guess the gun was upside down without the spear shaft engaged and you pulled the trigger. This in turn caused the sear in the Cayman to drop to the top (in this case bottom) of the trigger roof housing. Now you can't engage the shaft and you can hear it rattle.

Just turn the gun right side up and pull the trigger and it will fall back into place. If that's not the problem then I have no idea but if you send me an email to mark@omerdiving.com I'll be happy to help you figure it out. We're not aware of ANY issues currently with the Cayman trigger mech's so I don't think it's anything serious friend.

I think the Omer technical department may have misdiagnosed the issue. The line release issue is just a slight change in the shape of the forged triangular tooth that sits under the shaft-so it doesn't risk of getting jammed. I don't frequent the board much so again email me if you still haven't resolved the issue.

Grazie Spaghetti del tuo aiuto come al solito! Cordiali saluti!
