Mr. John Travolta,
The tuna found off the coast of Idaho are much smaller. Similiar to the tuna found off the sunny beaches of Oxford and Northampton!! |

Well, you probably could shoot tuna with a 70cm Rob Allen tuna gun -- but I'm sure there are much better ways! The Tuna model is the variant that comes with 2x16mm rubber bands & 7.5mm spear (good for big fish in poor viz?):Spearfishing and freediving products. ![]() I like my Rob Allen -- rugged. The new Vecta handle looks & feels good too. BTW re. the safety catch comment early. In a thread about safety's a while back, concensus seemed to be that most of us never use them because they are not really safe -- loose bands being the only truely safe state (& even then, watch where you stick the pointy end |

Back to the original question; rabitech or cayman HF?
Well as members here said; both are wonderful guns. I havent laid my hands on a cayman HF but I just ordered one recently and its coming soon, whereas I shot and tried rabitech guns b4. I believe the rabitech is more toughly rigged than cayman hf (comes with 20mm band and 7mm spear) and I also like the way the circular rubber inserts in the muzzle which even increases the accuracy of this gun. For cayman HF, it is also a wonderful gun; with its 6.3mm spear and circular 18mm band; u cant go wrong with it, and a 100cm gun still gives u plenty of range. Also the hydrofomed aluminium barrel is very stiff, and the trigger mechanism is pretty tough too, and can safely take up to 2*18mm bands I guess for future upgrades. Omer shafts I guess come to a maximum sizes of 6.5mm, but cayman HF can easily take the 7.1mm euro riffe shaft (if like u plan to use it with 2*18mm bands). But after all, I guess the cayman HF gun was designed for usage with smaller games than as with the rabitech guns (like something up to 20kg). But as other members said, you can't go wrong with any of them, and at the end it all depends on which of those guns will fit u more. So try them both and see which one fits your hands more, and have available replaceable parts in your country best regards and have safe dives

Brilliant!Spearfishing and Freediving Equipment - Spearguns - Cayman HF - Technosport Inc. ![]() Rabitech Spearfishing South Africa ![]() ![]() I think the Omer looks "trick" but I'm surprised they made the barrel so deep. I think a regular barrel tube is around 28mm diameter, a rail would probably add, maybe another 5mm? I would have been move impressed if the barrel were "shorter", especially at the muzzle - to reduce horizontal drag. I like the way the SA bulk-rubber muzzles position the rubbers along the barrel - like a good eurogun. Last edited by Mr. X; August 21st, 2007 at 20:56. |

I have the hunter and have never seen the camen, so I'm biased, but one thing I'm surprised nobody mentioned is the band difference. Since you've already purchased the RA, which is an outstanding choice, you'll find that making your own circular bands for that gun is significantly cheaper than buying screw in bands for a euro gun.

Actually, the HF coesm with a sharkfin shaft, so tying your own bands wouldn't be an issue at all.
I have owned both, and my Rabitech has been gone for a while. I own about 7 guns at the moment, and next to my Wong, my 75 cm Cayman, is my favorite. It's rugged, extremely comfortable, and is accurate as all get out. And you're definetely getting a winner in the HF model with the reel, open muzzle, and finned shaft. You can't really go wrong with either gun, but for me, it's an easy choice. |

Hes talking about tying your own bands with dyneema wishbones instead of using the euro bands with the screw on ends and articulated wishbones.

Still doesnt sound right! TOOmas it is possible to buy rubber in long lengths (bulk rubber) & different diameters. This can be cut to length & a wishbone can be made from Dyneema (a very tough type of cored braid) The benefits are - cheaper replacement bands, quieter & smoother loading & the ability to cut the rubber to suit your needs.

Band technology is mainly driven by the bull-castration industry - at least they are the ones who've done the most research. I think bands are pretty much all the same - though i could be wrong.(other than diameter etc.) In any case you can either buy new bands for your gun online, or from a shop - or you can pick up bulk tubing and learn to tie them yourself. Here is a good tutorial on how to do it

Big gun investment just to used on a lake, there are less expensive but still good guns that one could use, like the Mark Valantine for example.
