Exclamation Speargun Help!!

finally!! i managed to make a working account here!

hi
ive been reading EVERYTHING on this forum for a while now, but somehow couldnt get my account to activate.
im am spearfishing in lebanon, and have a beuchat arka 75.
i want to get a new gun, but not sure which one. i hunt in all kinds of conditions, usually good visibility, all kinds of 'terrain' +bluewater but fish not very big (by your standards). a big fish to me is 3 kg, grouper, bream, garpike, snapper, jacks, all kinds of fish... also bonito, kingfish and dorado etc passing through seasonally.
i want something to take some larger fish ( rarely larger than 15kg) but also the usual from further range. a good allround gun for my conditions. So: a good all round gun for long range on smaller fish, but enough for the occasional 15 kg giant in clear water
i was thinking a 100/110 but not sure... american style guns dont exist here.
what size gun do you think i need????
thanks !!

Re: Speargun Help!!

thanks for all your answers...
about how much do these guns cost?? (the ones marwan proposed)
is there a big difference between the 110 and the 100???, because i imagine id rather get the 110 to have more of a contrast with my 75...or will the 110 be too big?

foxfish: havent you ever watched south park??

Perhaps he was a UN Weapons Inspector? (Or Russian dissident). Oh, I see S.Park
How about a 100/110cm Rob Allen or Rabitech railgun? Omer & Seatec are well regarded & offer several models which were probably refined in the Med.

Foxfish is Darth Mamba man Very powerful.

spearo.co.uk sell some Rabitech gear. You could try contacting RA direct in South Africa via their website: Rob Allen spearguns, railguns and other spearfishing and freediving accessories.. Omer seem to be the spearo company with the most comprehensive & spearo-focused product range. The Cressi Commanche band-gun looks like good value. I think OMD (& maybe Robbo?)often uses a Beauchat band-powered gun.

Longer guns usually have more range & power but are harder to move (& perhaps load), which could be a problem for closer shots. Visibility is often a key consideration.

Re: Speargun Help!!

they killled kenny..you could try subprof.com or scubastore.com for reference on prices in the area...
as for the difference between a 100 and a 110..i can see that you are in lebanon, so probably end upo fishing in caves/holes at some point (ideally with the 75), the 100 can help also, but the 110 will be much longer in terms of maneivering and harder to load..are you going to be targetting fish over 15-20kg regularly...( I just took a 20+ kg fish with my omer 100)

Re: Speargun Help!!

there is no such thing as a good all around gun...the 100 is the closest to that in my opinion...if you want a big game gun...rabitech or rob allen 120+ is a choice or go for the wooden/hybrid guns with 3 bands like wong or riffe

Re: Speargun Help!!

OK here is my 2 cents.
The Cayman HF is a great gun, I just got one 110, the handle is very ergonomic and strong, the Line release is nice and strong in stainless steal, the gun feels very light and easy to move around. The muzzle design is great very slim, the reel is very good as well. The overall quality is very good but I notice a one flaw.

1) The barrel is bare aluminum just painted black, I was expecting a sporasub like barrel with a plastic cover, I think that would reduce the noise when shooting, so the coat of paint is probably going to get damage , I hope I don't corrosion problems, I also miss a little hook on the muzzle.

For the 110 I think I would still have picked the HF but for the smaller guns I think I would go with the carbon.

Re: Speargun Help!!

Don't worry about scratches: there shouldn't be any risk of corrosion on hydroformed anodyzed alluminium. Nobody has reported this kind of issue on thousands of Cayman HF sold so far. Paint will probably tear off, but that will give your gun a sexy, rough look.
Me I'm still looking to buy a 90 and the choice is between these four:
Seatec Gabbiano
Cayman HF2
XXV Gold
Geronimo Pro.
While we're at it, there's an update about the HF2: it will be available from late february, will be a cheaper than the HF but sold without reel. Bad news about the HF2 limited edition camo version: very expensive, about 400 euro! I'm wondering what Marwan will do
