Closest club would be Sussex or try London International Club as one of their guys used to fish just a bit farther North from where you are. Try asking at;

British Spearfishing Association - index

Re: spearfishing on Kent coast ?

Years ago I lived on the kent coast, and later essex. My memory is murky waters, but I was surfing then so would only go to the coast when a swell was running.

Joss bay / broadstairs springs to mind as possibly being your best bet. Essex? .. clacton / walton on the naze, but I can't imagine they offer great viz. I remember being in off the essex coast in raw sewage. Proper floating logs! , after the rain had overflowed the sewage treatment.

good luck.

Re: spearfishing on Kent coast ?

Hi Pav, yeah bad viz and raw sewage.... think that just about says it all for the water around the essex coast. I kind of thought that I might come up with nothing about it but I had to ask!!

Don't give up hope!! people say you can't surf on the kent coast, but the die hard few still score waves. You just learn where and when.

I really think Joss bay and broadstairs are worth a look in the calm summer months. Post back during the summer and let us know how you get on. My bestman still lives in Kent, and although I love seeing him I find it hard leaving the west country. A sighting of a few Kent Bass may tempt me
