Seven wonders of the Freediving World

I'm just starting to plan my trip-of-a-lifetime around the world tour, and I'm trying to come up with a list of stuff that I just have to do/see.

Being a keen freediver, i'm going to plan a lot of the trip around the world's oceans. This is where I could use some suggestions.

Where are the deeperblue communities ultimate freediving locations? Where are the mecca's of the freediving world?

A few places come to mind, such as Sipadan (Malaysia), Vanuatu and Fiji and the Med in general. But I honestly only know of these places as scuba destinations and am unsure as to what extent they cater for freedivers.

Where have you guys and girls been freediving that was absolutely magic? Or where are you dreaming of going?

Dahab by the red sea.

There you got nice water and deep walls from the shore. The blue hole and The Bells is just fantastic. Everything is really cheap (living, eating, traveling) and people is friendly.

Im going there for the second time this year in october :-)

Wow, Dahab has some beautiful dives, and freediving courses to boot!

And the scenery is just stunning.

I think I have my first confirmed destination!

Nice France

Francois Cautier arranges pure freedive training sessions in Nice. They have a big RIB. After 5 minuter boat trip they drop down 3 lines, one of them having a sled.
During summer they do daily trips, but outside of summer there might not be enough freedivers. So when in offseason you have to find a group of freedivers.
This is a good place to train safely, all the depth disciplines.

Dahab is the best warm water diving I've ever done, and it's the only warm water place I'd try to get back to. It is absolutely amazing: beach access to deep walls, lots of life, and lots to see above the water too.
My favourite place to freedive is near Port Hardy, Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada. The water is cold, but it is similar to the Red Sea in it's abundance of life and variety. Even the visiblity has been over 40 metres horizontal at 40 metres of depth!
Danau Maninjau is a volcanic lake in the jungle of Sumatra. The lake is 15 km long and 450 metres deep. The water at the surface is around 30C, and the place is indescribeably beautiful.
Twin Lakes is a place an hour away from me (Edmonton, Canada) that I freedive a lot. It's cold, dark, and 35 metres deep. Most people would hate it, but it's one of my favourite places in the world too.

Cheers,
Erik Y.
