free diving in CR

I'm going to Costi Rica to surf but I also like to free dive and wanted to Know if any body has free dived on the pacific side of the island.

I visited Playa Tamarindo in the Guanacaste province on the Pacific side in July. The water in this particular area was pretty murky and shallow even 200 meters offshore. But, if you get a chance to go the Catalina Islands off the coast with an SCUBA operation, I've heard that's the place to go for diving. The only decent shore dive near Tamarindo is where the local Snorkel trips would go which is off Playa Conchal. I've also heard that the Caribbean side of C.R. offers much better water for diving, not sure if you're going that way though.

I was in Guanacaste in Sepetmber. I managed to hook up with some locals out of Playa del Coco for some spearfishing. We didn't do too good - one smallish jack between the three of us. Never the less, I saw enough evidence of game fish to convince me that I would give it another try if I ever got the opportunity.
