Not good to ask, but can you I.D this fish?

Hi everyone,

First time posting here. I just started spearfishing a month ago and I am learning fast. I am in socal. Just wondering if you help I.D this fish my buddy caught the other day while we were out. There were large schools of them, with many fish that looked larger than this one. Apologize in advance, don't flame me, I know that it is important to I.D the fish before you take the shot and so does my dive buddy. We are still learning, and hopefully he didn't shoot anything prohibited. The fish measured out to be about 15 in. Thanks in advance for the help!

Not a barred perch. A Zebra perch.
