Shark no match for Con | Herald Sun
WHEN North Balwyn businessman Con Andrianopoulos, 48, cast off on his first shark fishing voyage last week, he didn't know what to expect. But he soon found out when he hooked a 228.2kg mako shark, one of the biggest ever caught in Victoria. "It leapt in the air about four or five metres," Mr Andrianopoulos said. "That's when we started to get a bit scared." Despite his friend Troy Richards's reservations, the debutant persevered, battling the beast for more than three hours to land the prize. "I made sure it was really tired, because they can destroy your boat," Mr Andrianopoulos said. But catching the powerful fish was only half the battle: it was too big for their boat. "We waved down a boat and the four blokes on board were from the Bass Strait Game Fishing Club," Mr Andrianopoulos said. "When we got it back they weighed it, and were pretty impressed when it came up 228.2kg." ![]() |

how about we just pop him in- minus rusty cage... here in false bay
just off seal island... you know... death alley? it really hurts to see such beautiful creatures thus treated... spent a hectic afternoon here in muizenberg the other day, buying a LIVE 1m tiger shark off some teenage boys who were torturing it... just for fun! ran down to the beach with the poor thing in my arms, and waded into the sea to release it. the shark survived, thank goodness! but my phone i had in my back pocket is dead forever... you think nokia will like this true story and give me a new phone? It is sad to see such a fish hanging up BUT if he did indeed get it steaked up and eaten it could be that 200 people ate a delicious piece of fish from the top of the marine food chain and did NOT eat some poor factory farmed pig, chicken, or veal calf. I sometimes feel sad looking at a dead Grouper that one of my friends has speared, BUT as long as the population is healthy we can afford to harvest and enjoy them.
That mako may have eaten a few young marlin in it's life so maybe it was his/her turn..... Bones |

I really dislike the title of the headline... is it just me or do other people have the same opinion?
"Shark no match for Con" To me this sounds like the guy fought the shark with his hands or speared it. Hooking the shark and fighting him on the line doesn't seem like a 'match' to me. I am with most of you on this one. I hate seeing sharks killed. The only time I see it necessary to kill a shark is in self defense (if that is an option). Then I would understand having to kill it. Just my 2 cents... take it for what its worth. |

Exactly, people think they are tough and macho for catching a shark on a line; ooo yea your so brave sitting on your nice squishy chair in the sun. I have no problem with killing sharks if you jump in the water and wressle it with your own hands

Shark fin soup ring a bell? over 100 million sharks are killed each year for pretty much nothing. If sharks were not so overfished they would be treated the same as any other fish. The populations are declining rapidly and makos are one of the worst off because apparently they are "fun to battle."
