I'll assume you came to this conclusion after interviewing the shark?

sounds like the same type of "knowledge" we get up here from the new folks in the bush, usually starts with "Bears only attack because...."

Fish are food. myself and most experienced divers I know do not keep fish on their person while diving in shark turf. but hey, I don't know anyone who's been struck by lightening, but I wouldn't go dancing in a thunderstorm with a tinfoil hat...

Re: Nice Catch & Video from Qatar

Scientists (who study only sharks) here tell us that is the reason. It is mostly a simple case of mistaken identity. The people that get attacked the most on the California coast are Abalone divers. They spend alot of time on the surface. And happen to dive near areas where large sealion colonies reside. Most of the attacks that have happened on people here had nothing to do with fish. Trust me...the no fish on your belt rule does not apply to every region of the world.

Here in California your biggest worry is looking like a seal, not the fish on the belt. Some guys here try to stay away from black or brown wetsuits.

Re: Nice Catch & Video from Qatar

Hello friends:

As some of you know, I no longer live in Qatar as of March this year. There isn't a single day I remember the great weekends I spent spearfishing with my friends. I am goning to try my luck in the mediterranian sea next month ... I am sure it wont be as rewarding as in the Gulf.

In regards to what Amphibious is saying about stringing fish around your waist, I will have to agree with him 1000%. Few month ago while swimming back to shore dragging the best catch of my lifetime (over 60KG of grouper) we got attacked by some type of shark which knocked my buddy of off his body board 2 meters in the air and took off with our catch, body board, and equipment in a frightning speed. I am so happy I didn't have those fish around my waist that day.

If you're fool enough to risk your life in search of an adrenaline rush or to look tough on spear boards ... go for it, but don't go about advising other people of doing the same.

Cheers

Re: Nice Catch & Video from Qatar

Hello Gladiator. I read ur post when u recounted the story of ur khor al-udaid trip... That must have been frightening. Im glad none of u guys were injured... I'm surprised at it... It must have been a large hammerhead or could even be a bullshark i guess... But did u say ur buddy got knocked 2meter off board? or just the board got knocked out?

By the way, where will u be spearfishing in the med sea?

Regards !
