A Big Trout I Speared

When I was about 15 and didn't know any better I speared this trout. I knew it was illegal and this was my first and last attempt at spearing fish.
Take photos not fishes' lives.
I did eat it though and my family and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Ok, ok. But on the serious side: how did you cook it? Ovened, grilled? Boiled with a hot sauce? As a pasta dressing? As a pizza topping? Any fried trout nuggets? Trout medallions in pickled orange sauce? In crisps or in crèpes? Al cartoccio? A carpaccio? In carpione? Fried in butter and sage? Fried in oil...?

PS-....Wrapped in thin slices of bacon?

Re: A Big Trout I Speared

Baked in tinfoil with some carrots and onions in its belly. My mother cooked it actually. Delicious but I only eat farmed salmon and shellfish now.

Re: A Big Trout I Speared

Shout, I see your point but I still think that hunting legal adult fish on your own, if one has this possibility, is still the most evironment-friendly way for gaining proteins, for reasons that it would be too long to discuss, and which have already been discussed so many times.
I have no problem to discuss this subject one more time, but when you post "don't take fishes' lives" in the hunting section of a forum like this, there are just two possible outcomes:
1- spoiling the discussion with jokes.
2- arguing, arguing, arguing.
My vote goes to possibility #1.
Respect,
spaghetti (with farmed clams)

Re: A Big Trout I Speared

O well I like a bit of deviation so I would like to add - I do occasionally eat farmed fish, this would happen in the winter when the sea is so rough nobody can catch fresh fish, my freezer supply has been used up & I like farmed Salmon! I have eaten wild salmon but we can only get that frozen & it taste far to strong for my palate. Now clams we don't need to farm in Guernsey, we have a big tide every month & anyone can collect at lest 6 types of clams in abundance.

Re: A Big Trout I Speared

My apologies if I have offended you Spaghetti. It is not my intention to preach to you the way I think things should be. I agree spearing is the most environmentally way to catch your supper. When I came to freediving (or it came to me) I made a request with the ocean - I will be nice to you if you be nice to me. So far this has worked well for me. It is my own personal agreement with Tangaroa - the god of the sea. It is for you to make your own agreement.
Happy hunting

Re: A Big Trout I Speared

Oh! Thanks for reminding me it's nearly Neptunalia and Furrinalia (23-25 July). In ancient times, in the land where I'm living, these were the days devoted to the God of the Sea (Neptune) and the Goddess of Deep Water (Furrina).
I think I shouldn't spear fish on those days.

However, given the normal nature of the ancient Roman festivals, there are plenty of other ways to entertain yourself on those days! :
