barracuda??

I know barracuda can be eaten but I also know that there are barracuda with ciguatera, a really bad type of food poisoning, but my question is how do I know which are the barracuda I can eat? I have heard all barracuda above the Florida keys are safe to eat(just what I heard I have no idea why) and I also heard they can be really good eating.

Re: barracuda??

i love cudas..very tasty especially the small ones.

Keep the fish out side. if any flies land on it, then it is ok for eating.
you can also try it with ants. if you have 3 or 4 fish, place one in your garden. If ants approach, then it is ok too.
This way you will lose one fish, but on the other hand you will eat the rest with a piece of mind.

cheers

Re: barracuda??

You can do the same but, you do not need to put the whole fish outside or loose it for that matter. Here (in MIAMI,FL) we just take a piece and do the same test said above. Leave it out to see if flies or ants will approach it. If they don't then you know which barracuda is good.
