Hawaii is in the US and they enjoy them there.
I'm not certain, but I think someone said that its illegal to shoot them in Florida.

its funny how it works for parrots...they are tasty, yet fishing them varies all over the world,..in hawaii the parrot is a prize fish, elusive fast, very hard to fish...where i live if you shoot a parrot, its a sure sign of desparation..as they are quite easy to hunt over here unlike hawaii..i have tried eating it before and its quite tasty, a bit close to grouper...cleaning them is a Bi%ch though, very hard scales

People here shoot Uhu's here all the time. My buddy Jon fried up a big female he shot one night - cut her up into pieces, dipped them in batter, and rolled them around in panko followed up with a little dip in some shoyu. It was delicious and fed half a dozen people... Almost made me want to start spearfishing. Long live Uhu nuggets!

Same here in cyprus, the local boys laugh at me when i take the mini pneumo into the shallows and poke a few parrots, i like the smaller black ones, skin is tough, a bit like leather, very tasty meat though, magic cooked with grouper together, and soaked in lemon as a Meze. followed by good quantities of Raki.

Hawaii was my first duty station after Officers Basic School and Artillery School, and it was supposed to be a three year tour. I met my wife on Waikiki (I was only there because it was one of those rare days when it was too rough to dive on any side of Oahu) and my son was born there. But then I put in for flight school, and got accepted too quickly. They sent me orders to flight school and my three year tour was cut to 27 months. We cried on the way up the steps to the plane taking us away from the island. I almost made it back. The Marine Corps policy was that if you had been there, you couldn't go back until everyone else had been there. Every six months we got fitness reports (performance evaluations) and were always permitted to list our first three choices for next duty station. During flight school (about 15 months) I kept listing Hawaii first choice, and people kept telling me I was wasting my time since I had already been there. And I always replied that then the Marine Corps could give me my second or third choice if it wanted to, but I wasn't going to pass up another chance at Hawaii by not telling them that I wanted to go. Lo and behold, when I was about to get my wings, my orders back to Hawaii arrived. But then on the day that the movers were in my house packing up our things, I got a call modifying my orders. The squadrons that I would have been able to join in Hawaii were about to go to Vietnam, so there was no way for a new pilot to get trained in the particular aircraft. My wife and kids were out at the base getting the required innoculations, and I called out there and told them to get out of the line. We were so damned disappointed. Later, I did get two different one week R&Rs in Hawaii from Vietnam, and my wife flew out from the West Coast to meet me, so those were great times, but we never got stationed there again. Sorry for the long derail.

All BS of course, the real reason is that Bill couldn't afford to be too close to a certain future workshop employing a single elf

Pastor, I think that elf would have been around 4 or 5 years old at the time, so I doubt that he was in production by then.

Funny story, I live in FL lol and my 1st fish was a parrot fish. I know it's shameful. But I learned the rules since then and I obey them @ all times for what it's worth. It was funny because I was not gonna shoot that fish but during the dive the fish I was hoping to shoot left so on the way ^ It appeared and out of frustration/inexperience/ and anger I shot it. Now that I recall the whole thing, it was kind of funny. The Meat is tasty and white, very classy if you ask me. Soon after that lol a huge storm came out no where scariest thing that has happen to me on the boat so far.
