Spearfishing in the Keys

hello all,
i have just found out that i may be going on a trip to Islamorada in the Florida Keys from 05 March to 13 March. i was wondering if any of you have recommendations for places / people to dive with. also, what opportunities may present themselves during that time. any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks.

Visit the link above. This site has a lot of traffic from people that dive the key on a regular basis. I think it will be your best bet to find someone to dive with. Just specify if you want to freedive or scuba, as quite afew of the divers there are scuba only....

Good luck,

Gerald

Jeff Kelly is on Little Torch Key, about 26 miles from Key West. Spearo friendly freedive charters and a real nice guy.

Re: Spearfishing in the Keys

if you can hit the wreck of the Duane and the Bib. There will be many hook and liners there and you should get there early if you want to set up on the mooring balls, which makes life alot easier! I go early april every year and we see good amounts of wahoo on these two. If you can make it to the wreck(top deck is at 90ft, sand at 115) there are lots of big black grouper, muttons, cuberas, and so forth. We have also done well on the thunderbolt for big aj's and grouper. A little bit shallower you can hit the reef and look for most of the same stuff. Just be aware of the MPA's and dont get inside them with a gun and fish on board!
