Hatteras in Mid-April

I'm looking to spend a week on the Outer Banks next month. Weather permitting is this a decent time of year for blue water trips? Is anyone looking for help paying for gas. I'm pretty well travelled and experienced, and would be stoked to buddy up with anyone needing it. And/or does anyone have any leads on charters running out to the wrecks. Unfortunately I'm operating solo here, so I'd need to try and fill in with a few others. Ok, any tips would be appreciated.
