Re: Miami Spearin' Contest

I've been watching this thread, sounds like a great idea. IMO....keep it informal, so it stays fun. I think a good a way to enforce boundries would be to have everybody leave from the same place and have an early weigh in and a BBQ to follow??This would discourage anybody from running long distance especially if prizes are almost not worth the expense of gas??? What a about team divisions?? Best boat??..dale..lets do this thing

Re: Miami Spearin' Contest

Welcome aboard FREEK...Sounds like a good idea...donno about the BBQ, FishFry sounds more in order. Seems like we got a few trigger happy spearos aboard..."the Contest" I'm storming up is a bit bigger, but that shouldn't prevent us from Prelim...if you will so you rookies can see what you be up against...something simple lo-key...no frills type of compo
try to keep it close to the orinal one so as to iron out the creases that "The Contest" might have....

3 fish max from the list
Fish of the month 10 points In this case we draw the 10pt fish from a hat
Trigger 1

Hog 1
Blue Runner 1
Mango 2
Lane/School 2
Sheep 2
AJ greater/lesser 3
Cuda 3
Margate 3
Goat 4
Spanish Mackeral 4
Yellow Jack 5
Dolphin 5
King 6
Cero 6
Cobia 7
Porgy 8
Mojarra 8
Wahoo 9
Gag/Black 9
Mutton 9

Points are awarded per pounds of fish, per fish, and per biggest fish...so you actually are winning by points...

Example you nail 2 muttons 1 was 12#'s & another 7# you earned 19 points (12+7) plus another 18 points (each mut is 9 points a piece) for a total of 37 points....If you got a total of 200#'s of fish you get 200 points plus whatever points each of the fish you speared are worth...if you shot the biggest fish thats worth...lets say a bonus 10 points, if you shot the most fish thats worth a bonus 10 points...Entrance fee is a skinny $25/spearo, dive with a bud, but weigh in solo, fish weighed gutted, at the end all the points tallyed up and First, Second, & Third get the Bing...some other details will be fourthcoming, but how does this sound as aTester Tease for the Big Enchilada give me your heresay and block off the second wkend of Mayo...we gonna shoot some pescaditos?

Good $h*t except for the whole Best boat thing, we spearos don't really take that into consideration! ask steel what he goes out in!

def of a Spearo: will leave out on anything just to shoot some fish!

saying that imagine how many people out there would make it in w.e they have! + it's unfair to give some one 1 a price because they have a kick ass boat that just means .. many things.....

On another note, I like the whole boundaries thing in relations to time and place & where tourney would be limited too.

Steel I agree with the whole gutted fish thing pero se va a formar una cagason ahy con mondongos. Ahahah

any ways steel even though you are thinking of doing a really big one why don’t we all put a small one to work meantime we get more exp in running this events.

BTW we fish in pairs but weigh in alone? Why aside from the safety factor? Is the tourney INDIVIDUAL OR TEAMS!
man that there does not sound good because you are gonna be there shooting fish while your buddy just watches your keep in mind he also has to get points for fishes and submit his own catch? see where I am going now a more appealing suggestion would be for a team of 2 motivated spearos working for a common goal which would be to get a good bag size and not have to worry about who gets more than who when at the end their catch would be essential to their final score.

I think freek was just throwing some sugg out there...is all ARMAN....hell man it crossed my mine to throw a wet T-shirt contest in the mix

Man within 5 min of me shooting a fish I have him gutted (usually)

You dive with a buddy, but you both are shooting fish...ideally you should do I up one down, but you can hunt however you want, both shooting fish at the same time. I just think if 2 guys pay $20-$25 they're gonna each like a chance at the Chabitos...so even though you are a "team" its more as a safety margin, do the right thing type of thing.....but if you guys want to do a team thing we can probably arrange that to...
I NEED INPUT ON THE AMOUNT $ ENTRANCE FEE, BEST DATES, AND ANY OTHER SUGGESTIONS, AND UNFORESEEN STICKY POINTS....if you guys wanna do this PRELAM CONTEST...giddy up with the input so I can move on it

Re: Miami Spearin' Contest

Steel, I also agree with the paired fishing and lone weigh-in........common sense dictates this simply because a team can't split a wetsuit, mask, or whatever if they win........I'd say entrance fee should be no more than $30.....anymore and you'd probably be risking a low turnout.....$30 to enter, plus gas, then gas for the vehicle hauling the vessel.......tends to add up......I'd say best time is mid-June......

Side note------what would you quote on a 130 custom? I recall the price u mentioned when last we spoke, but I'm looking for a simple design.....if it's negotiable shoot me a call brother......

Re: Miami Spearin' Contest

Mid-June sounds way out there....by then I am hoping to start the "real competition" this is gonna be a kinda fun thingy for you girls, er, ummm, uhhh I mean spearos...no prizes Beast....KISS....cool hard cash...pot luck full of Benji's....so $25 is good then, weigh in gutted, 2 man team, weigh in solo....boundary N & S from Bear Cut (want to give Mahi...a.k.a. Cuchillo a fair chance) to Haulover, E & W endless bay to endless blue.

Where do we meet for the Cappy meetin', where do we weigh in, can you guys get some volunteers, I can supply one fish fryer...what are we gonna need- scale, tarp,...dang this is sounding mom&pop'ish but its all good will help with the Big Enchilada....I got answers and sugg. but I'd like to hear you guys input...bring it!

Re: Miami Spearin' Contest

gj on the whole cash thing that's the best way to do things! I don't want a damn wetsuit or an AB Biller for that matter. Money is what most spearos would want I guess in my opinion that way they can get w.e they truly desire.

Steel deja la pendejeria! que I don't even touch my fish till I get back to the house & finish cleaning all my stuff that includes equipment & boat!

lol I am going to have to keep all my mondongos to save for chum!

As far as the whole capt meeting, the best place to meet would be! ..... Either CoConut Grove Marina IDK if there is enough space there to do weigh ins perhaps to the side. For the sole reason that it's some what in the center of things.

I know if you do Black Point, or Matheson Hammock Park spots would be allot further away for those who fish up north but, you have elliot key near by so there are + & - to all locations of course.

Chumming immediately after gunning...is my motto...plus it keeps your catch fresh...Hit me back with some suggestions on what I've been posting for a few weeks guys...this contest is getting to be about as painful as slipping a kidney stone...giddy up

the meet at the Sunday Marina sounds like a purdy got idea...just that getting inyo KB and lauching from same puts you at $20 without yet touching the water...Funny you mention Jimbo's I thought having the meet at Virginia Key last "kioskito- the one with the pine trees) would be sweet since boats are allowed to pull right up to the shore...and the place has a great vibe to it, only problem is it closes at sunset...but

if we do a 3pm back time (cuttin' it a bit short IMO) its do-able...Si, No, I nono?

Re: Miami Spearin' Contest

If you wanted to track everyone, require everyone use a handheld gps system and leave it on all day so that prior to weigh in they must show their tracked trip report and be cleared to be weighed in. This should eliminate 99% of the drama and doubt.
Just an idea.

Re: Miami Spearin' Contest

Hiya Rinaldo...thats a great idea and one we'll surely implement, anything to control/eliminate the D&D is good with me.

So this is what we have "The Miami Money Bag Shootout" a 1 shot deal and a preliminary to "The Miami Spearing Shootout".

"The Miami Money Bag Shootout" will have 3 places and although its one competition I'd like to repeat it every year (at least thats the idea) same time, same place, same dates same rules and always as the warmup, the pown, the fluffer to "The Miami Spearing Shootout". You win by pounds and points, we have a set boundary (its looking like it will be N-S Haulover-BearCut & E-W Bay to Ocean no limits other than the N-S boundaries), its a one time event with prize $$$. The only difference b/t "The Miami Money Bag Shootout" and "The Miami Spearing Shootout". Is "The Miami Money Bag Shootout" has less of a payout, its 1 event, and 3 opportunities to place, while "Miami Spearing Shootout" will have aside from 3 opportunities to place it'll have Most total Pounds of Fish and Biggest Fish(s) awards too.

"The Miami Spearing Shootout" this is the contest that the "The Miami Money Bag Shootout" builds up to...I'd like to have it as a 6 meet contest either 1x/month everyother month, 1x/month 6 months consecutively, so as to stay inline with our original objective
Quote:
objective really is to get a few Florida guys together share some laughs, tips, competitiveness, and comradship.
nonetheless open to any suggestions. This contest is exactly like the one above other than those mentioned above.

OK enough said...I'm gonna keep it rolling till Wed. of this coming week any input ideas NOWS the time to VOICE them, by Friday the latest I'll have a draft written in stone and by Monday of that following week "The Miami Money Bag Shootout" will be officiallicio. Anyone that has some Graphic/Computer skills PM so we can get a Flyer/EBulletin ready to gun.

Re: Miami Spearin' Contest

i would love to participate in a tourney around here and get a chance to meet other spearos. How bout extend the boundaries south some, a lot of miami spearos live south and launch out of blackpoint/matheson which means areas off bear cut even are still pretty far north.
