Here's a shot from the back. I just added on one of my camera trays from my film camrea system to use as a bracket to hold the camera off to the side. I know it has an angle to it, but that's all I have for now. If it works I'll look on E-bay for a flat one.
You can see that it is easily detached, by the wing nut, underwater so I can remove it from the gun and, safely , take pictures of my buddies.Jon

One last shot from the "working end".
Unfortunatly, it looks like were going back into the deep freeze around here for the next couple of weeks, so I don't know when I 'll get a chance to try it out. jon

I think I, finally, have this thing worked out.
I had a freind machine a mount that would allow me to adjust the bar, a little, to make sure everything lined up how I wanted it to. I also can run the camera with my right hand while shoot the gun with my left- this isn't a problem since I am left-handed to begin with. The top rows show details of the gun mount system and the bottom rows are some 'action' shots I pieced together. I set my digital camera, Olympus 5050, into video mode when stalking/shooting. I then went back and pulled some stills off of the video. Since this is asking a lot out of a digital still camera I wouldn't call it magazine quality, however the movie clips look pretty good. Maybe one day I'll be able to get a real video camera to mount on the gun, but for now I have lots of flexability for what, and how, I shoot. Jon

Tracking is fine, but straight line swimming is slower due to the size of the camera housing. One of those tiny Oceanhaus housings would be awesome- but not on my bank account.

Here in Michigan - same frustration - particularly since walleye is arguably the best testing fish we have in the great lakes. I've been thinking of getting one of those little olympus rigs based on some other photos posted on this site - this adds to the appeal.

Wow Jon, thats great!!! I really need to mount my camera on my gun... I think it would affect manouvrability and tracking on a euro though, so im not so sure... :s
Anyway, let those movies roll in! I really want to see one!!!

That's great stuff Jon. Very inspirational to me too. Up here I find sometimes I am surrounded by hundreds of Perch that are too small to shoot but would make fantastic pictures. Next year I'm going to get on a project like this.
I scubadived up here for years and rarely saw fish. Never saw a Perch, Pike, or Walleye until I started spearfishing this year. I'd like to get some good pics for the local dive stores, to show them that there is some great diving up here in the North. Especially if you leave the tanks at home Cheers, Erik Y.

Oh Jon, you put my envy on endurance test!
Without having any mechanical expertise, I think it would be really hard to mount camera on a euro gun. The only place on the top is the handle and the top of it is quite thin. Maybe the only otion is to have the housing mounted under the handle where the reel usually resides. The other option is to have it under the barrel on cilinders, which may also be used as shaft guides... Hmmm... |

Have you uploaded any of those movies to have a look. Or would you care to send it to me so i can see the quality. I am currently thinking of a sony p120 with housing for spearing footage.

Wishbone,
I am not sure how you would mount it onto a Euro gun. I originally thought about doing it to my RA, but just couldn't think of an, easy, way to do it. Shaneshac, I don't have them posted anywhere, but Ted (unidna) have been talking about putting together our own web page just so we can poist our videos and pictures. The whole idea is on hold right now since he is getting married tomorrow. Once he gets back form the honeymoon we'll put some more thought into it. Jon
