Product review - Canon EOS Digital Rebel XTi (400D) 10.1 Megapixel Digital SLR

I am thinking about buying this camera and also getting a housing for it... anyone use it?

Camera is great, but small for my hands. Only tried it topside, but should work awesome for underwater. The larger sensor on dSLRs and lower noise high-ISOs make a world of difference.

What housing(s) are you thinking of? That and lenses are the pricey part

Not sure about the housing, my photographer friend had an ikelite which was problematic and she said she would not recommend it.

Ikelite swore it wasnt their fault, however, after argument replaced it and then the second issue totally flooded. Apparently the housing will be about 4000$$$????? Is that true?

first time ive heard of ikelite problems, but i dont really read up too much on underwater photography, i noticed a link on the main page to a company called gates i think, that makes housings. the link was a sema review of them?

i like canon cameras, a lot of people dont, but i do, never had any problems with any, even though a nikon user would swear that canons give 99.9% of all camera problems worldwide

Depending on what you want, you could easily get to $4k... but that's a lot more than you need.

I've used most of the major players in the video housing arena (Ikelike, Gates, Light & Motion, etc.) but have only tried the ikelite for dSLR. It worked fine paired with a 20d and probably the most affordable option. Sorry to hear of your friend's issues - bound to happen with as much production that they do. The 400d is a new camera too, so maybe there were some bugs to be worked out with the new housing design. Even so, that's horrible build quality.

All that being said... I'll probably go for the ikelite despite problems. Gonna go down to http://backscatter.com/ and check out all the options to see what's the best fit. The smaller the better
