The simplest video stabiliser ever, do it Yourself

I am getting ready for palooza and I hope to shoot some nice footage there but whoever tried this while swimming with monofin knows how tricky it can be to get smooth picture. So I came up with very simple solution and I want to share it with all of You who are using small digital cameras with video mode. I hope I don't repeat it, I did not find any posts about this "machine" so maybe to some of You it will be usefull.

Pictures explain the idea, which basically is a plate (aluminium in my case) with camera housing mounted on top of it. Remember this is just a prototype, it needs final touch. I did it in 30 minutes and I took it to the pool right after. It is fun to swim with, just like having another mono in front, except this one is not to propel but smooth out the motion. Unfortunately I don't have any video to share because I lost my housing. New one is on the way so I will add some demo footage later. I am sure it will do good based on watching it underwater today, it goes flat.

The piece I used is 24"x12" and I thing I am gonna make it smaller, the handles I used come from my video housing, very easy to switch between. If You dont have fancy housing You can use just about anything for handles, copper pipe or even jump rope handles, be creative

I also need to grind and smooth the edges and cornes, I will make them round or elyptic shape. Please make some experiments as well if You feel like and post some results. If You can show some video before my housing arrives that would be great.

Disclaimer - do not take You set underwater in configuration as seen on the pictures, marine case or housing required. Nostres Inc. not responsible for equipment failure ( even dough specializin in such... )

Good luck

I've thought about trying the same thing but I'm finding with the addition of a wide angle lense the camera is a little more stable. Haven't done any video lately though I may try today.

It should act as sort of a canard while monofinning though - could be really interesting that way.

It WAS dangerous - sharp. I made the corners round and smooth now so it's kind of a wing. I should make the video soon, long weekend is coming I will be in the water a lot, finally
