yes, I purchased the wide angle filter for the wide lens (a little difficult to put on and remove, but it wont keep popping off, which is good). I intended on using it for wide angle video and photography, and using the normal port filter (small one) didnt make any sense, since I only use it for Macro with a strobe.
but if you dont get a wide lens it couldnt hurt for ambient light images. but the wide lens is pretty awesome! I recently discovered that the 52-42 mm step down ring that comes with the Fantasea Wide lens, fits on the 52mm threads on the outside of my Nikon wide lens (WC-E63) for the p5000 [Good thing it doesnt scratch the lens, the adapter ring stands the larger lens off just a few mm's from the nikon lens], so I have two stacked wide lenses that create an awesome fisheye effect! at close to 170 Degree field of view, and if you zoom in to get rid of the Vignette, (it would still be cheaper to just buy a coolpix fisheye FC-E8 = 180 deg FOV = true fisheye) you get about a 15 degree larger FOV than with the stock Wide lens, which means more screen realestate for wider scenery. I will play with it using a slave strove and see if I have any luck, but I suspect that I will need to use an iTTL strobe with an off camera cable for good shots, because the slave is used to fill in the HUGE shadow that the two lenses create. :@ Horray for the iTTL shoe mount and the option to turn off the on camera flash while enabling the iTTL strobe. I will also post an image with this setup soon, it didnt have bad Chromatic abherration with trees at the edges, so I am going to say it is nicer than I expected. I tried googling stacking wide angle lensed, but no information came up, I suspect it isnt a common practice, and am thinking that the only benefit is the use of the wider lens with no noticeable effect from the smaller wide lens. Perhaps I should look into a stepup ring from the Nikon lens adapter for this lens, so that the focal point can be closer to the original lens. (my fear is that I will get less of the light brought into the lens is useable = smaller FOV than with the housing and I get more FOV with the wide lens behind the UW wide lens) best of luck. TBGSUB.

Just went to check the P5000 and they have been removed from the shelves! Signs are up that the new P5100 will be in the stores next week! Consumer society or what!

where was that! holy crap, what a fast response, did the P5000 sell out, or did they just remove the 5000's where did they all go? I am impressed. really the difference between 10 and 12 mp is negligible, it is like jumping form 1MP to 3MP only more minute since the image is large allready, maby only a few lines of pixels larger.
but at least there is a housing that accomodates this new P5100 right away! good luck. I am still enjoying the P5000 with few complaints. (live Histogram would be one, and non RAW would be the second) but otherwise it has just the manual freedom to make mistakes and learn real photography before jumping into a full DSLR that I have been hoping for. I feel it is a great learner camera. Digital is like a bike with training wheels, lots of room for error, and plenty of recovery time to get it right next time. A film camera is a little like learning to ride a bike without training wheels, the lessons can come at a cost! Last edited by tbgsub; September 13th, 2007 at 04:53. |

I think that they just cleared teh shelfs.
The shops were in Tokyo and Kawasaki. Can't seem to find the P5000 anywhere so looks like I will go for the 5100, but I better hurry or they will be brining out the P5200 soon! |
