As I already wrote earlier, there are plenty of photos, daily updated, on the website of AIDA Czech Republic - just click the links in the first article (called Repre deníček 2006) at the top of the page - plenty of photos and not only of the Czech team. The Czechs have also several UW cameramen there, and will help with the official footage of the competition, so they are quite active already now and producing a lot of material.

I just spoke to my friend Will (Winram) who's been in Egypt since friday 24th and apparently everything is GREAT down there. Sea temp at 25 and outside temp in the mid 20s. Visibility is 25-30m and they are having a blast. Today he just did his prerequisite for his CNF world record attempt (thats happening right after the end of the WC) making a clean and easy 78m dive...
(yes that is without fins) GO WILL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! team Greece is going to Hurghada on Friday and everything is looking GOOOODDDD Chees Stav ps. wish I was there

Wow, nice photo's!
What happend to the all-black suits ??? I see so manny nice slick looking extreemly cool wedsuits! Awsome, this will surely make the sport look much nicer! I'm sure we black suit users will look so outdated after this WC! I expect Elios will need to expand their staff with al the orders for the latest freediving fashion! People have fun, and make it look good! Perhabs some people can upload some video's on Googlevideo or youtube? Thanks! Kars

HEAPS of teams have arrived today. The atmosphere is really cool. It was great before, when there were only a few divers but now it has a real Olympic Village feel to it.
My first Gold medal goes to the Danes who got one of those aquapedal sit down bike things to pedal out and use as a dive platform. The Brits and I joked about it a few days ago but to see the Danes go ahead and do it was pretty cool Cheers, Ben

The Danes, what can i say: They paint their Hotdogs bright red for gods sake!
I hard some females from non european countries did good on training one did 57 meter and the other did 60 meters on trianing for the competition. I just say the competition will be hard for the females also! It will be interresting to see what the results will be on competition day.

Speaking of live...Anyone sneak a dvr in there? Or got egyptian satellite channels?
Feels like such a shame that for the first time we've got tv-coverage...But no way to watch it :/ Hope they make a good DVD at least...

Well, there were some reports on the Czech TV, but unfortunately they did not put it online because of limited broadcasting rights. I have also access to some Egyptian and many Arabian channels on my cable network, but since I do not understand anything and do not know at what time to expect a sport report, I am not sure if I manage to catch it. I can try keeping an Egyptian channel open on my screen though, and will record it, if I see something interesting, but am not sure how long I'll stand it

The Danish girls -Eva, Maria and Britt- have a blog with pics as well:
http://www.havfruerne.dk/ Hopefully the official site will at least be updated with the daily results. |

I find the official website until now at least totally useless for people like me looking for the latest news and stories about preparations and training results etc.
I had hoped and expected much more. Also on deeperblue I find all the news rather tame for a world Championship. It feels like it is much less alive compared to the last one, where weeks before stories and picftures and updates where everywhere. Unfortunately my scandinavian and east european language skills are a bit rusty because they are a pleasant exception. Hope things will change for the better for the unfortunate homestayers when the stuff starts going. ;-) |

If they'd at least post the announced preformances and actual results within, say, a day of being realized, I would be satisfied.
But I'm not holding my breath... Probably the biggest audience for this type of thing is in the Internet. Sure, it is unfortunate, but that's just how things currently are Now when is someone going to launch a youtube-type of service, but which works with real time (or semi real time at least) broad casts. So that the event organizer only need worry about having enough capacity to upload a single video stream, but some faceless monstrosity of a company hosts the actual servers and bandwith for distributing it world wide? Wouldn't that just about revolutionize the way these kind of marginal events get publicity? Someone with some programming skills looking to score a couple of billion should take note
