Re: Freedive Dahab CWT/CNF Challenge

It was a beautiful little competition, very good atmosphere, incredible site, interesting counterballast system (under the water), millions of alien looking jelly fish, and off the top of my hat, 4 national records. Thomas Grindevoll did 76 CWT for Norway, Annelie Pompe did 72 for the higher glory of the Swedish crown (or for fun -that girl is strong), Sarah Campbell (sorry if i misspell your name gorgeous) did 30 without fins (how does she manage with those tiny limbs?) rule Brittania, and i did a 42 no fins because the Netherlands need to get a little more nether. Thomas was the overall winner.

Strong strong! Congratulations to all, that is one hell of a way to start your depth season. Must give you good targets for this summer, no? I will aim for 15-20m head first, 30m feet first. Give me a nod as you pass by...

Re: Freedive Dahab CWT/CNF Challenge

Hi Daniel,

Thanks for the update, I'm very intrested in the rest of your experiences, and offcause in some pictures of the event

Did BTV(hands free equalisation) work for you al the way down?
Did you succeed to reach your residual volume=0 depth?
Have you done some sled diving?
Did you meet any dolphins?

See down here in the Netherwaterworld down in the Netherlands.

Love, peace and safe trip home!

Kars

Re: Freedive Dahab CWT/CNF Challenge

It was an very familial competition event. I was there as a coach for Natalia Avseenko. Lotta and Linda did a great job in not only handling a competition for the small budget with a very warm and friendly atmosphere but also with successfully implanting a floatable counterbalast system to the freediving world. They showed with their organisational talent that deep-diving competitions can be safe, lean and very professional in one.
Great job!
Pat

Re: Freedive Dahab CWT/CNF Challenge

Hi all!
finally i got sick after too many weeks of non-stop working, so hooray, i have the time to read a bit in the forum!
thank you Pat for your nice words, and for not mentioning we were on the edge of a crisis until 10 minutes before the first official top (ops...it escaped my lips!).
and we are indeed very proud of our beautiful new little toy, the shiny stainless steel uw counterballast we built. (it doesn't seem a big deal building something like that in europe, but to have that made in sinai...very impressive!)
we had a lot of freedivers here, before and after the competition (some are still here) and it was very nice and intense. i want to thank them all for having been here, and especially for having been patient and understanding when sometimes Lotta and i were too busy and lost our nerves!

cheers
linda

Re: Freedive Dahab CWT/CNF Challenge

Hey everyone

Only just logged on and saw the congrats from the UK people! How warm and fluffy do I feel?!?! Thanks everyone, was a very special comp for me, my first and a national record all in one! Good to be back in the water after 7 months enforced 'dry dock'!!!

Thanks to the two Ls for organising it and providing me with awesome coaching too! And great to meet all the other freedivers too - fabulous dives (ditto Daan on the national records - Thomas, Daan and Annelie) and fun times.

Sam - tell me more about the SaltFree - do I need to be there to qualify for the UK team??? Hoping my performances in WARM WATER will be sufficient ;-)

Can anyone tell me Liv Phillip's name on here - want to get in touch with her!

Love
xxxx
Sara

Re: Freedive Dahab CWT/CNF Challenge

Hi Sara, it's Ben here (Aussie from Richmond training). Glad to hear you had such a great first comp, it's not often you pull off national records first go!

You would only have to do Saltfree to qualify for the UK team if a bunch of other UK competitors better your results in between now and the Saltfree comp. The BFA board will clarify this sometime in the future.

That said, if you have the opportunity definitely go to the Saltfree comp - it's a cool little comp, great people, very well organised, very little in the way of external elements to affect your dive (tide, currents etc), gives you comp experience, and it's fun!

Livvy is Bluefins on DB.

Cheerio,
Ben
