sorry tim... didn't notice the 0 after the five minutes. Shouldn't the performance score read zero if the athlete was DQd????
anyway I heard it was just a case of Judge Benny B being a bit evil!!! so you can keep the congratulations!!!

Don't worry Dave, you still have a respectable CW record. Anyway, that dynamic record you set was the most exciting freediving record I've ever watched ( no disrespect to the other amazing ones I've seen and judged ). There were a whole crowd of us in Cyprus jumping up and down seeing you do that. Something I'll never forget.
Records come and records go....

Some photos uploaded to Havfruerne » - 10. Berliner Mesterskab, sorry about the crappy quality (camera's fault, of course... and as you can tell by the eyes, it was a looong day and night).
Interesting fact, which I dare anyone to double-check and say is incorrect: ***Macnaughton's 178 meter DYN is the best newbie dive in any discipline, ever*** Newbie dive = defined as first AIDA International ranking comp, because the ranking lists are all I had to go by, but it was also his first comp at all, so if you want to throw local/non-AIDA competitions into the definition too, please go ahead. I checked all the big names on all the AIDA ranking lists to see if anyone else had scored 89 points in their first go, but none of them did... so hugely well done to Macnaughton, aside from the national record itself! Not to put pressure on Macnaughton, it's just such a great newbie/"surprise-national-record" story. I've passed it on to the Danish edition of DIVE and maybe you UK freedivers think it's worth pitching on your side also...?

Thanks for the kind words. It was really terrific to experience my first competition, and of course to fianlly meet all the great people who are involved in the sport.
All day I was really looking forward to mingling and drinking beers at the party, but had grossly underestimated the sleep needed to digest all those banannas they kept laying out on a tray Cheers Martin |
