Re: A competition you can't miss... Oktober 2008

It would be a fantastic trip (I might finally get to dive in the med...) but unfortunately I'm already stretching my employer's patience with the leave I'm taking for WCs.

As for prize money covering costs, I expect it to be the Sietas & Mifsud show with maybe a bit of Severinsen. If they hold the comp again next year, maybe I can start working on my statics!

Is the weighting of static points in favour of the CMAS athletes due to the fact that CMAS does not hold static competitions, and therefore that their athletes are at a disadvantage?

Re: A competition you can't miss... Oktober 2008

The AIDA part of the competition will of course follow the AIDA rules.

...even for the points in static. 0.2 points every second.

ps. I hope Alexey M will be there as well !!!

Take the work with you! Or help the employer to expand to Europe! I do not know what's your profession, but with all the contacts you can have through freediving, it is well possible you can find some business opportunities for your job, which may pay better back for them than having you there.

Re: A competition you can't miss... Oktober 2008

haha, Dave's employer is the NZ government, so unless we invade Europe it will be difficult to expand there ;-)

All of the champions listed on the site have been invited. I know most of them have confirmed (Severinsen, Molchanovas etc), but I don't know about Mifsud yet. If you are looking to attempt a PB, NR or WR these are probably the best conditions (DNF, DYN or STA) to do it in, as the pools are quick, and the perfect depth.
There are still 30 places open for the AIDA comp.

Hmm, an invasion eh.... I wish our airforce hadn't sold the last of its planes. But our two frigates might give them a run for their money!

Back subject, Yes Alexey would be cool there too!

Maybe we can start a poll when the list of champions is complete and vote on who we expect to be the winners?

Love, Courage and Water,

Kars

There should be another field mentioning the champions that are confirmed, or to avoid misleading, only show those that are really confirmed.

They will have to get past our two boats in the Irish Navy first. (thats just a joke we actually have 8 boats)

It will be interseting to have the two bodies together in a comp who knows this may be the start of a beautiful friendship.

Re: A competition you can't miss... Oktober 2008

Can someone tell me how will CMAS calculate static points?

I doubt that 1pts per 2sec is correct.

Well, it depends how the other disciplines are rated. For example at the last French CMAS (resp. FFESSM) championship, the rating was 1 point per second in STA, 1 point per 10 centimeters in DYN, and 0.8 points per 10 centimeters in DNF. So STA was deeply under-rated. Perhaps they decided decreasing the rating further, while keeping similar rating for DYN and DNF - note that the rating was per decimeter (10 cm), not per meter! And yes, they indeed measure the results to the tenth of meter (well, in fact to 1/100th [cm], which is extremely unprecise, individual for every judge and/or competitor, and often very unfair). I do not know though if the same rating for DYN/DNF will take place in Italy too. Ah, in fact I think there will be no DNF here, or am I wrong?

Re: A competition you can't miss... Oktober 2008

Trux, actually if I have seen this correctly, the 1pts in dynamic will be awarded for 1m.
So that will put static overrated to the roof... actually I have no problem with that but I think that will just not be the case...
Any yes, CMAS will not have DNF... well at least I thin so. Anyone knows for sure?

We've already been having a think about this.... here is a clip on an Oz tv show where two marketing agencies had to put forward their pitch for an "Invade New Zealand Day"
