had any body tried the cressi sub edi ?

im just curious cause it seems to have the best of all worlds, 1 sec sampling, multipule log books, sec interval for serface time. nitrox mode .... and dosen't cost like a car (or a suntto d9)

I have been using the cressi edy for the last two months. It is an amazing watch. i use it mostly for freediving. It is every bit as good as a D3 or a Mosquito but it looks about a hundred times better and is way more durable. My local dive shop sells them for 360.00 bucks Hope this helps. it is way easy to use

Its a great watch. Definately no complaints. But I would say have a look at the new Oceanic one if your also a SCUBA diver. It has advanced tissue loading so it accounts for the possibility of a SCUBA and a freedive on the same day.

just bought one yestarday for myself for christmass. YAY!
I sat down with the store owner, who runs a dive tourism, training service for Japanese and american tourists in Saipan. He and His staff all use the EDY for diving and Freediving, as well as Spearfishing for the last 6 months, and they dont have any complaints yet. Since their experience was a more frequent one than mine with a dive computer, I figure it would be a wise decision to trust their intuition.

I hope I am not wrong, I will let you know.

I am going to spend five days in newyears in a Small CNMI Island spearfishing, and I will get alot of short term experience with the EDY. so at best I can give a newby impression. I will be diving with people who use the D3, so we can compare experiences.

Update on the EDY!!

I never thought I would see the battery signal telling me it is time to replace the battery, but it happened!! I got the first warning every time I got the sensor wet it flashed and beeped and showed the battery symbol. now just the battery blinks under the time. After nearly two years of constant weekend use and using the light on weekends in bars to see when to go home and I still got close to two years of use! I did have the alarms turned off to save some battery. OK I STILL HAVE 7 MONTHS TO GO TILL THE WARRANTY EXPIRES SO READ THE FOLLOWING.

I recently E-mailed Cressi, and they responded with a link to the website to get the correct battery size, I am now under the impression that the battery can be replaced by any watch repair facility, as they did not indicate that they would provide a replacement service that might include pressure testing mentioned in the service manual. I wanted to have Cressi do the replacement so I could reliably use it WHILE IT IS TILL UNDER WARRANTY.

I may opt for having a watch repair place replace the battery, but I am wondering how will that affect the waterproofness? most o-rings for underwater housings last 1 year, do I need to replace the seal ring? or just use the old one? I only freedive, so it doesnt need to be watertight past 35m. that is around 3 or four atmospheres right? ok actually 3.9 Atmospheres according to this link: Pressure at Water Depth Calculator

I am hoping my situation works with a standard battery replacement from a watch repair place.

IT SEEMS THAT THE NEW EDY II is user replaceable according to may dive retailers, does that mean the EDY is the same, it appears that the watch is identical to the original EDY.

does anyone have experience with an EDY battery replacement and subsequent re-use as a dive computer? or am I the first one to try? I have used my EDY to track my freedives, and spearfishing habits, and then downloaded the data with the PC interface kit, which is AWESOME!!

I can now see differences in my surface interval when freediving and when spearfishing. it turns out I am more cautious and take more time between dives when spearfishing, and tend to forget the surface interval when photographing underwater while freediving.

after 17 Months of almost constant use as a watch, and as a dive computer, scraping it against coral when spearfishing (chrystal face has not a single scratch and I know I scraped the corals on several occasions), you can say that I am very pleased with the Cressi EDY dive computer for its Freedive function. it is almost half the thickness of the Suunto D3 and is much more durable. I just dont want to have to buy another EDY to freedive with a dive computer, I should only have to replace the battery on a perfectly good dive computer!

I dont Scuba Dive so I cant say about the nitrogen calculations. but I still love this watch!!!

UPDATE on the battery replacement!!
A 5.00 US battery replacement and I have my computer back in working order. I emailed Cressi and explained that I had a watch place replace the battery, the watch place I took it to has replaced dive watch batterys before, and the Cressi representitive wrote the following verbatim!

"Dear Mr. Scott,
the water tightness is surely the most important thing: this is also specified in our manual. I think the method used by the watch repair man is acceptable.

Alessandra Bonifazio."

so there you have it the Cressi EDY can have its battery replaced by any decent watch repair place. spread the good news!!
so Far I have tested it down to 78ft and it is working flawlessly!!
