I referred to the new Micromask. Although you're quite right: by now the Micromask is by far the most expensive of them all here in Italy: 43,50!!! For a mask!!!!! For that money you expect it to have a fishfinder microchip in it!!!

Several Czech websites claim the Micromask has slightly lower volume. I've ordered both from Snakesub.cz so will tell you what the difference is (if any noticeable). After my order, they still have one last Marina on stock (for 1,050 CZK, which is around 35€). Strangely, although they claim Marina was difficult to manufacture, and Micromask is manufactured using a new (automated) technology, Micromask costs almost the double in the same store (1,700 CZK ~ 60€).

Now that I've done quite a few dives with the Marina I have a few comments.
On balance the seal is better than the Cressi matrix on me. It is important to keep your face relaxed - I get leakage when I remove my snorkel if I am not careful to avoid extra face movement. The amount of water that gets in is extremely small and quickly forgotten. It seems the most vulnerable area of the seal is just below the cheekbones. Dry, the Alien seems to have a more robust seal - but in the water it also leaks occasionally. The Silcone in the Marina is fairly stiff. It is completely comfortable in 2+ hour dives - but definitely leaves lines in your face. ( I keep my mask straps quite loose) It is definitely the best freediving mask I've used - with better nose room than the sphera. Trux - I look forward to your observations between the Marina and Micromask.

I just found the weak point of the Marina mask- the buckles.
I pulled mine out of it's protective box to get in the pool and shot some pics of my kids swimming when I realized that one of the buckles had snapped in half. I tried to figure out a way to rig it, but there doesn't seem to be much to work with. Everything else on this mask made it my favorite, but now it's useless- and we leave for vacation in two days! I guess I go to my OMER Alien as a backup and hope it doesn't fog on me- why does such a good mask have such cheap glass lenses that fog like crazy after 2+ years of cleaning it? My other option is to switch to one of my Sphera masks- which are ALL in various stages of decomposition. I just might have to suck it up and lay out the cash for one of those Atomic masks for spearfishing. I just hope that they are a bit higher quality than the rest for the price they charge. Jon

As I wrote, I ordered both the Marina and the Mikromask and wanted to compare them side by side to see what the differences are exactly. Unfortunately, I received only the Mikromask - Marina was no more on stock although it was marked as available in the online store. I can post detailed photos of my Mikromask though, so that those who own Marina can compare them.
As for the buckle - I do not know if it is identical, but if I broke it and needed a quick and easy temporary fix, I'd simply put a wire through the holes on the fixed part of the buckle (the frame) and fixed the rubber band on it - having the other one adjustable would be sufficient. At least for couple of days it should be pretty sufficient solution. You will be probably able to get a spare buckle from a Technisub in the meantime. |

Hey trux, from where did you order the Micro mask? I was looking for the damn mask yesterday on net, but couldn't find it - thus ordered a Sphera from amazon.

There are a few online store in the Czech Republic offering it, and they ship also iternationally, though it makes it little bit less interesting. There are couple of links to several online stores above in this thread, but I think you may be able to find even cheaper offers. Some Italian stores I saw offered it quite innexpensive.

hi guys and girls,
my marina starts leaking water when going under 6-7 meters, especially when i start pinching my nose. i am really disappointed. has this happened to anyone? when i give it to other people for testing they say its perfect, they don't leak a single drop. greetings, cihus Last edited by cihus; August 19th, 2007 at 17:23. |

You really have to watch face movements with the Marina. You might subconsciouly be moving your face. I've got one spot on my face that leaks with almost every mask I've used unless I'm very careful about facial movements.
I took my marina out today and compaired it with my sphera. The Marina is more comfortable for me because the sphera rests on my nose. Both are very streamlined and great with the monofin. Jon, I think you may be right about the lenses on the Sphera - things definitely seem more colorful with it.

The Marina is now the Micromask. If you read back a bit - they had to retool.
Its widely available in europe so you should be able to find one before long Technisub tells me they are one and the same.
