Hi Andy,

Please, share with us your first thoughts/impressions/emotions about the d4! I'm hesitating between d4 and stinger (d9 is to expensive for me, and not so beauty as the others). I had a stinger earlier (and F1 also), and I was really satisfied with it. I know the technical details of both computers, and I know that the d4 is most advanced than the stinger (100m depth is more than enough for me at the time, but... I really dont like the plastic things.

Best regards,
Balázs

The plastic "issue" is really surprising. The unit is extremely solid and sturdy with the plastic only being the outer protective layer - the main computer underneath is solid and metal so you actually get the best of both worlds.

Re: Any Suunto D4 reviews to report?

Thanks the answer Stephan. Finally, I bought the d4 in the local diving shop, here in Budapest. The price was 94.910 hungarian forint, wich is 369 euro at the time.

regards,
Balázs

I'm afraid tiny plastic buttons are the first candidates for future reparation.

Re: Any Suunto D4 reviews to report?

I've got one and it seems really robust despite being plastic - much more so than the D3 or Mosquito.

Battery is not user-changeable though

Haven't dived with it yet (too damn cold!) but will post a review as soon as I can

Re: Any Suunto D4 reviews to report?

Greetings all,
Thanks for all the constructive discussion on the Suunto products. My question is this. Has anyone got as much of an opinion about the Cressi Edy?
How does it compare to the Suunto brand D3/D4? It appears to be at a much better price point (advertised on this site at US$387.31) than the D4 but I think I only saw one mention of it on this thread. How does the PC software rate? etc.
I'm primarily freediving for spearfishing and lobsters but I can also appreciate a good gadget. Especially since I hope to start a push to increase my maximum depth and safety is paramount. So I'll consider any tools that might help to that end.
Any response is greatly appreciated.

Re: Any Suunto D4 reviews to report?

I´ve looked around a time ago. I have an iMac G5, and I didn´t knew which computer to choose. Finally I didn´t find any good solution to download the data to a Mac from a Suunto or a Mares Computer.

Re: Any Suunto D4 reviews to report?

All the DB Freediving Course instructors just got their D4's this weekend so i'm going to be asking them to post their thoughts as they get to grips with them during the course of the next few months.

Keep your eyes peeled for the long term test reviews in here!

Re: Any Suunto D4 reviews to report?

I got the D4 (didn't have a chance to try it yet ) and a much cheaper cable from Smartinterface - Ihr Webshop für Tauchzubehör

The cable goes for 35€ + 5€ shipping and it is extremely well built.

The cable not only works with the latest Suunto Dive Manager but also with alternatives such as:
Download Mac OS, free, D4 supported
DiveLog Mac OS, not Free, D4 not supported yet
http://www.divinglog.de/english/ Windows, not free, D4 supported

For the cable driver you can download it from smartinterface or better from the chipset manufacturer that also provides the Mac OS driver :

Virtual COM Port Drivers
