weight belt

Since i am just starting out freediving..i will be using my 7mm scuba wetsuit before investing in a freedive one. I am wondering how much weight i will need to get neutral at 10m....i remember hearing 1lb per mm.....is that true?

Re: weight belt

I heard one kilo per mm. I think that's closer.

Re: weight belt

I tend to use about 3lb less than what I use for SCUBA. For me 6', 225lb, 7mm Farmer John, I use 24lb to be neutrally buoyant at 30' freediving. At 35' ~10m I would remove a couple of lbs.

Re: weight belt

Unless you're very skinny or very fat, body density is close to sea water. Lung size, amount of neoprene and the type all have a bigger affect on buoyancy. If you take off about seven units of fat, you take off one unit of lead at any depth. The same 7 to 1 ratio is close for feet/pounds at 30-50 feet.

Re: weight belt

There is a freediver same height/weight as I. He uses an Akrona 7mm open cell? and needs over 30lb for 25'.
