Camera stick is 1,6m long. I'd like to make stick longer to 2 meters.
It was quck steup from a stick I found around.

Re: Freediving on YouTube

Amazing that the velcro is strong enough to hold it in place under speed.

I used to use an old snorkel keeper threaded through the nose bridge of an Cressi Super Occhio to hold my front-mount snorkel in place. It was rock solid, but I couldn't take it on an off as easy as you can.

Now I am using velcro-snorkel even for swim with guggles.
I do use same snorkel and aditional velcro belt wraped around my head
In this case snorkel stis on a velcro belt.

Re: Freediving on YouTube

Hello,
First of all it's my first post, so let me introduce myself. I'm a 15 year old boy that fell in love with freediving this summer when my brother started practicing for competition in Poland. After 3 weeks I did my first 75 meters in DNF and was hooked more than ever. I live in New York for the whole year and go back to Poland for summer, therefore I don't have many places to dive here. So I started working on my statics and go to the pool every no and then. Whenever I have time. Two weeks ago I decided to film my static attempt and caught something weird. I dont know if it's a blackout or not as I didn't realize it and continued holding my breath. Some people say it was a CO2 narcosis. What do you think?

The whole video:

Re: Freediving on YouTube

Yep, looks like a blackout to me.

Uncontrollable contractions.
Loss of motor control, diaphgram, neck, face, larynx.
Automatic breathing response.
Recovery with samba (LMC) (the sounds coming of your mouth)
Suddenly waking up, blinking after the 02 from the involuntary breaths reaches your brain (where am I?)

Good thing you were lying on your bed - was there anyone else there?

Looked like quite an aggressive breath up before the breath hold. Do you breathe up like that in the pool? If so, I would suggest you don't. Search the forums for info on safety and the benefits of having higher C02 when you do a breath hold - especially in the beginning.

Stay safe!

Re: Freediving on YouTube

Nope, of course I don't hyperventilate in the pool. I know the risks involved so I rather not take them. I stopped hyperventilating in my statics now too to get used to normal diving condition. (In the video I didn't start my static right after hyperventilation, I always take some time to calm myself back)

Re: Freediving on YouTube

laminar pretty much said it... thatīs a BO. Symptoms looks pretty much similar the one I had at the end of a DNF attempt. I lost about 30 s of memory with it. Itīs the only BO Iīve had and also the only long dive Iīve clearly hyperventiled for, so leasson learned on that one.

Re: Freediving on YouTube

I'm quite glad this happened to me, it was my first blackout and I learned about a little my limit. Now I know when to stop my statics (usually 2:15 from the first contraction.)

Pozdrawiam

Re: Freediving on YouTube

Siema!

Dobre,

The kind of video everybody wants too see and not so much to experience..

You did fight good but it would help You if You mount Your timer above so You can just look at it without raising Your hand

Also, "2:15" will change in no time. It can increase as Your tolerance improves or decrease on a bad day.

narazie

Re: Freediving on YouTube

Hi everyone,

Remember me? I posted the video of my 133 DNF dutch NR a few weeks back and got a lot of tips and responses about my shady technique. :-) Today I got the change during http://www.dutchapneaopen.com/ in Eindhoven the Netherlands (thanks Pim&Susan) to show I can swim with better technique. Today I focussed on better streamlining (legs) and proper armstokes with no pauses in them. My divetime was almost the same, but the distance is 20 meters more! My recovery was not good, my biggest LMC so far but the SP was good enough for a white card. The reason for the bad recovery was probably the turn at 150 that was too much for the day and also I had to use the rope between lanes. I had not practices that with a real max attempt and need to work on that. I switched from a 1.5mm Elios full suit to an Orca Apex2. Had to find the proper weighting again and obviously (from this video but also what I already knew) I need more weight around the waist. I had no time to add weight and also film myself. This pool is a nice 3 meters deep so I hoped I would be okay. But .5 or maybe 1 kg needs to be added.

Re: Freediving on YouTube

Yep, I'd call it a blackout. As Laminar stated, your breathe up is pretty aggressive. I have a friend who can do a 6:30 static pretty easy. But since he hates contractions, he started experimenting with purges. 20 purges and he is comfortable at 5min. but will blackout at 5:30. There is alot of information here to help you with this. Get on Trux's website and have a look around. I swear the guy has nothing better to do than add more articles/videos about freediving to it.
