A beaked whale was registered as having dived to a depth of 1899 meters, in a dive that lasted 85 minutes. No decompression problems. Wow.

What a dumb article! The article claims the previous 'record' was 4000ft (1219m) by the sperm whale. In fact, even elephant seals have gone over 1800m, and sperm whales have done 3200m. The 1899m 'record' isn't even close to the real record!

That was dynamic apnea, Naiad
Actually, when I posted the link for this article a month ago I obviously didn't know about the elephant seals and sperm whales records, but CDNN is a reputable publication, not known for printing/posting unverified news. Of course I am sure Eric is right, so I guess this was the exception. |

oooh touche' jose' ![]() Lucia slap on the wrist! ![]() CDNN normally publish a load of bollox IMHO. Elephant seals, as Eric says, can dive deeper. Normally to 2000metres. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/4736196.stm hey ho..... |
