Performance Freediving Miami

Welcome Everybody!

I just got back from Miami where for the last four days I had awesome time diving and learning from Mandy, Kirk and Rob King (very nice guy too)
This experience is beyond my words, especially in English so I will express myself by sharing those moments in short video I am editing right now. Unfortunatelly the amount of knowledge to learn and intensity of this course won't allow to focus on filming too much but I did my best.
Also, there is not much underwater footage from pool/open water sessions. Kirk was filming underwater and will send DVD to all attendants in couple weeks so I will do what I got for now and then I'll modify the video using his footage. There was 12 people in my class, nine of us had completed. Ages 18 to 64. Majority? Cuban spearos. I had some knowledge about Cuba but my knowledge about Cubanos was based on one of my favorite movies, "The Scarface" What a great people! After four days of training with Performance all of them gained their depths signifficant. We were all very satisfied with our achievements. Five of us got little over 100ft (with one BO near surface by young boy) We were just about to drop the plate to 132ft when weather (waves) said "enough". We had to go back to the marina but it was good anyway because we were not supposed to leave in the first place.
I did my Static PB with big jump from 5 to 5'30" with little issue and 5"40" clean right after. Dynamic 100m which I did before but never with bi-fins. Everyday after training we ended up in a local bar having chance to get to know Mandy and Kirk closer.
I recommend this adventure to every freediver, it was the best $600 I've ever spent, worth every penny. This course is very professional and very well put together, Kirk is the best teacher ever, rare gift.
For those interrested in Freedive-a-palooza, July. There is a little hope they may come to us for one day, although looking at their schedule I wouldn't get too excited yet. They are shooting the feature right know for example (besides regular around the world travelling) Mandy said (with the sparkle in the eyes) she would come if she gets to be the judge at the competition Jon is working on. I said "hell yeah! You get to choose to be whoever You want!"

Here's couple shots from the last couple days, video comming soon

Peter

Re: Performance Freediving Miami

Nice post and photos Nostres. I am a bit jealous though this is silly as I will go to Grand Cayman for 16 days in 1 month - Yeah!! Did you use the new carbon fiber cross bars for your dive float holders? Cheers Wes

Yes! Wes!

I did and I was even helping to assemble them, those are just long pieces but they weight nothing, it's a great thing! Oh, no, now I am jeleaous. They told me about Caymans but I can't go now. I am going for advanced in november, Hawaii.
You are gonna have the best times there, take care!

Re: Performance Freediving Miami

Nostres,

You will have a great time for the advanced in Hawaii too. For you now 6 days plus Hawaii is awesome. On the first day diving in Hawaii last fall the advanced group had dolphins come to them out by the dive floats for 20 minutes. A whole pod, maybe a dozen dolphins swimming all around, diving down and circling around the dive lines and jumping right over the dive floats with the students there hanging out. We missed this as we were the next day in the intermediate class.

Re: Performance Freediving Miami

Kirk said the same thing about dolphins and they see them quite often there. He also said that it's always flat in Kona. Last time the worst weather they had in eight years was about foot waves. He was telling me this while I was puking all over myself , very funny guy.

Jim! There are still spots available for november, Hawaii...

All right guys, I have some video ready, it is more like a trailer of what's coming once I get underwater footage from Kirk, however it will give You some idea of how fun their clinics are, enjoy

Peter

Hey Nostres, Great report and pics! Very awesome video! Did you make the footage of the little kids, too? Such talent on this board.

Is DiverTodd also doing the Advanced in Hawaii?

Thanks for posting.

Dear Jeanette!

The little kids are taken from freedivers classic "Big Blue", if You haven't seen it run to Blockbuster right now!
Todd is doing advanced in Caymans this month, I have been there before but I didn't go to Hawaii yet, so I chose this destination, besides I've always wanted to encounter a wild dolphin, there's big chance for that in Kona.

I am glad You like the video

Peter

BTW, we went diving last saturday with Jim, he said You couldn't make it, too bad, hopefully You'll join us next time

Re: Performance Freediving Miami

Nice work with the video man. Looks like a lot of fun.

Kirk seems like a good teacher. It seems like he is very good at explaining in an easy to understand way.

Hawaii too? You are a lucky man! Can't wait to see the footage of you with the dolphins.

Hey Peter,
I've never seen "Big Blue" - I will have to. Will Wes and Todd be in the same Caymans class, then, I wonder? Looking forward to reading about HI and seeing your great cinematography.

Yes - Freedivechicago sent me a message to go along with you guys but I couldn't because I had to work. I was really bummed. It sounds like a good time. Did you see the tractor at the bottom of the quarry and were there scuba divers there? The one dive shop in Chicago "proper" uses Haigh for their cert dives....

Great job again. Cheers,
