I'm still on the same place in the poll, but I wanted to brag on my new PB of 5:34, and I managed to do it dry, so it's breakable for sure.
About 4-8 contractions, starting at 4:30+-, now if I was only one of those people who can keep conscious 4 minutes after the contractions start...

Maybe next week I'll take aim at the 6, but it's probably too early, need to do lots of more 5:30's for that.

Hey DeepThought,

Way to Go!

Try doing a work up every other day for 12 days total. Thats 6 target statics. If your goal is 6:00 do a work up like this,

Day 1: 5:00
Day 2: 5:15
Day 3: 5:30
Day 4: 5:40
Day 5: 5:50
Day 6: 6:00

Remember this is every other day. I was able to break the 7:00 barrier with this method.

Good luck!

DSV

10x DSV.
If it would make me pass the 7 minute barrier as well I'm sure to do it.
I try to do 2 consecutive days practice - one day off, right now. I found it more suitable with my general schedual, but I still didn't manage to train more than 3 times a week 2 weeks in a row anyway.
But it suits me well, since if I practice, I progress.

Congratulations!

Congratulations Karl! I assume your 8'12 was wet?
I think it is time you set yourself the goal of the true world record, meaning the longest that any freediver has ever reached under any conditions (training or otherwise).
Aim for the greatest:
Martin Stepanek (wet pb 8'06), (dry 8'15)
Herbert Nitsch (wet pb 8'11), (dry 7'35)
Alejandro Ravelo (wet pb 8'25), (dry ??)
Timo Kinnunen (>8....)
Tomas Benovic (>8....)

So, once you surpass 8'25 in the water, you will have the joy of the longest ever static apnea by a non-yogi!!!

Can you share with us some details of your statics & training? Breathing pattern, 1st contraction time, number of contractions, food before apnea, the usual stuff....

When I first saw this poll, I thought to myself that I should ask anyone who have a 7+ static to post, so everyone could "jump on him" with a ton of questions.

Now when I see your 8+ (higher than world record), I don't even know where to begin with the questions...

Make it wasy on all of us Karl, start spilling.......

Congratulations Karl. That's a big number. When you respond, will you please include height, weight and lung volume?

Hi all,
He's my brother, and his dimensions aren't that:
Weight= 65 kgs
Height= 168 mts
Vital Capacity=6.8 L (different from total pulmonary capacity)

That performance (8' 12") was wet.
He's not so good writing in english, so I'll tell if he wants that I translate the answers

This thread reminds of me of an idea I had last year (2001) when I started training for my first competition. I lived in inland Canada with no training partner, so I started a thread about my training which I would update every few days. I had 2 reasons: the first, because some people were interested, and the second, to help inspire me in a competitive manner. It worked, and though I had no training partner for any event, I did manage to tie Eric F's Canadian static record.
What I'm getting at is that maybe we could use this thread (or another) as a competitive "banner" whereby we can inspire each other to new hights by posting any new PB's in static....this is not boasting: those of us that are interested in achieving new limits are usually very supportive of other competitors achievements.....as anyone that has been to a freediving competition will agree. Eric F was not intimidated by my performance; in fact after that we became good friends and he shared tons of personal research with me that has improved my diving immensely.
So, I hereby throw down the glove, and challenge all of us to a static duel, which will never end!
I still don't have a training partner, and I need all of you, so step up.
Cheers,
Erik Young

18 AND UNDER CATEGORY

can there be an 18 and under category for those of us that cant compete yet?

i like erik's idea, i think a little friendly competition would do no harm, as long as everyone did everything safely

Thanks Frank
All these young divers with 8 liter lungs and less than 70 kilo of body mass, I think I can see my problem. I'm working on the rules for a new contest that I can win. Let's see;
constant in meters+static in deci-minutes+dynamic/2+age should give me a chance. Too bad for Thin-air but heck, you didn't expect me to play fair did you Vince?
Aloha

AS THEY SAY....

if its a fair fight you did something wrong

but what is a deci-minute? (im guessing it means a tenth of a minute or 6 seconds...but i have never heard of it)

and bill, i think you still got me beat im all three

ps. i'm now at 72kg and my lung volume (at my last "measurement" - which isnt very precise - was 5.5l + residual)
