ramstam,

You're right, thinking consumes a huge amount of O2. Pipin actually discovered that experimentally, and in the oceanmen TV movie he says this about static apnea:
"if you are thinking about 10 different things, you're wasting too much energy."

Training my young Padwan, training....

Most of the meditations that i ever did (long time ago) involved slowering your thinking/brain waves/ brain cycles.
and ofcourse there are those who are more competent at not thinking, as mentoined a few posts above.

Hey Ivan,
When you see that nice fish what do you think about? 100 different things? No, just that fish. For me at least, thats one of the great things about freediving, it gives me a chance to sort alot of things out. But when it comes time to hunt my mind turns to a single purpose. I guess yoga or meditation works for alot of people but then again "if it ain't broke don't fix it". Just MHO.

Yeah Jay when hunting and when im chasing a nice mac I dont think about anything other than where Im gonna put the shot, I dont even really look at the whole fish properly. But with statics it gets very boring very quickly and my mind wanders.

Lightbulb Thinking

Hi!

A thought just hit me!

Many divers today make extremely long static's after hyperventilation and maybe that's because they are "gone" for 2-3min because low CO2.
I can remember some time when I've experimented with hyperventilating and "woke up" after 2'30'' very confused about how fast the time went.
Maybe this low CO2 makes the brain-activity low and therefor some people do success with this technique.

I have never done good times with hyperventilation though.

Thoughts???

getting the best concentration

Never put your mind in blanck--fill your thinking with the word of GOD--if not- see what happen to the first person that introduced this fo yoga in free diving-and how his life ended.

there is a better way for concentration. and only our creator can give us the completed pace we need and all we do.

safe dive

Daniel.

time to brag

I have only been doing breatholds for maintenance purposes since late last summer, when I starting having a host of physical problems. First the flu, then prostate, then etc., etc. My former record was 4:30 last August. The fastest I have been able to get my running times is still about 25% more than what they were last year. But with all of this I still managed a 4:00 yesterday, without too much problem.

Today my assistant left work early and I was mostly alone in my office. Time was ripe! I did a 45 second negative, a 2:30 warm up, and then went for it. At 2:10 I didn’t feel good and bailed out. About 3 minutes later I decided to give it one more shot. Did my breath up. Contractions started at 2:30, were big, but not really painfull and stayed at about the same frequency. 5:10!

hi

Don if I could hold as many contractions as you I could do a 7:25 static. Whats your secret about 2:40 of contractions lately I average 1min worth and in some attempts I manage a mighty 1:30 worth.

cheers

HI,

I´ve done in training a 5:42 (new PB), but with a LMC, ´cause my cheeks trembled a bit. I felt like electroshocks running for a second through my cheeks. But after that I was totally clear and could stand up and talk to my buddy. Has anyone of you experienced this feeling of electroshocks running through after statics at the limit?

contractions

Andrew,
I used to hate contractions, but this time I just let my body go with them. I even swallowed some during them. They were kind of refreshing. I felt like I got a little extra something with each one.

I don’t know if this has anything to do with it, but the evening before, I ran my usual .7 miles to the health club, but this time I did complete breaths, like breathing up, all the way their. Exhaled fully and filled my lungs from the stomach all the way through the throat and finally the checks. Definitely not the fastest way to run, but I had a nice little burn in the lungs when I arrived. Take this for what its worth.

Roland, Thanks for the encouragement.

Daniel (neshamah),

I find your posts religiously offensive. This is not the place for religious evangelism.
