or (perhaps?) outdoors on a wide patch of soft grass or sand, if you're alone.
one can stumble quite a way when samba'ing from a standing position.

I have been doing tables, and my PB is now 5:10! It is impossible for me to do anything close to this time in the pool, because I get too cold, but sometime I will get a thicker wetsuit and then.....

Naiad,
When you do your statics in cold water, make sure to wear thick warm gloves. I was reading a study on the dive reflex and although cool water on the face helps induce oxygen conservation, submersing the hands in cool water has the opposite effect. Warm gloves are essential for cold water statics!

my vital stats

178 cm
weight 70 Kilos
6.9 L

I've just started on with static, I managed 2 mins today, yesterday 1'33 mins, the day before 1'13 mins. I get so inspired reading all this great PB's, I got a cold these days but when I'm fully fit I hope I will manage 3 minutes!

Samba

Hey, im doing Apnea walks to school everyday, not too hard but still hard.. Once i pushed myself further than before, my legs got full of acid and I was exhausted.... But, I have never felt anything near a samba when doing apnea walks... Has anyone experienced it?? I feel its much more likely to get it in the water even when not pushing the limits too far.. Although i must admit my legs get shaky from all that lactic acid

Just a newbie question, what are dynamics?

Dynamics are how far you can swim horizontally on one breath.

I have been doing tables, and my PB is now 5:15!!! The only people who know about my PBs are a few friends (mostly freedivers) and everyone at DeeperBlue. I find it really hard when people get upset and think I am doing something very dangerous and useless, because I have put a lot of effort into training and I wish it would be easier to share my achievements.

More to come.....

Lucia,
Congrats on the PB! Good work!

I know what you mean... I have a freind who I don't tell about my PB's in static anymore because he thinks I'm killing brain cells or something!

Regards,
Aaron

Well I have read up to about page 19 of this thread but thought I'd just skip to the end and post my PB.

Started doing statics about 10 days ago due to the water temperature being a little chilly. Started out by doing the oxygen based one (2 min ventilate - 1 min hold etc + 15 secs each rep.) and got to 3:00 after a few days.

Yesterday I managed a 4:30 dry static - which is pretty good for me I think.

Is there any info on the effects of apnea on the brain. What happens when you hold your breathe to the brain ? You are essentially depriving the brain of oxygen - is this damaging ? I'm a little worried as around the 4 min mark my vision starts to go a little funny (everything seems a little sharper etc).

Made it into the sea for the first time this year - borrowed a hood which made things nice and found a whole load of spider crabs and also sea hares (spawning I think). Anyway - this is a great thread and I'm slowly working my way through it page by page when I should be working.... If I get fired I'll know what to blame.

It's a pitty I cannot change my vote, because a month ago I got into the 6-7min league... 6:11 is my PB.

The fun thing for me is that I can show it in competition as well, with a 5:58 I got the gold in Belgium competition in Huy.
Last wensday I did again a nice 6:08.
I only practice statics in the water, I dislike the uncomfort of the ground or bed.
Strange thing is that my static is becomming more joyfull, even at the end it's not as uncomfortable as it used to be. The fighting fase has sort of dissolved?

I consider good stanima and peace of mind and a short preperation Key parts of my latest PB.

Kars.

Congratulations on the times and the gold. Competition times are far more important than lone, dry statics. I envy you the ability to train in the water.
Will you please explain what you mean by short preparation and/or tell me your routine. Still trying to find some help for the 'fight' from 5-6 minutes.
Aloha
