16*50

Inspired by the results of the Berlin competition, some our training group here in The Netherlands have started training the (unofficial) 16*50 Dynamic discipline.

What a killer discipline !!! but very intriguing too.
My respects for those who can do it in less than 16' is huge!

I'm curious to know if any of you train this discipline and what your advise would be for an efficient training schedule

Hello!

Me and my friends do a lot of interval training of 50m apneas and we start for example every 80sek.

Example:

0sek---start apnea 1, 50m
80sek- start apnea 2, 50m
160sek-start apnea 3, 50m
240sek-start apnea 4, 50m
320sek-start apnea 5, 50m
....

A friend of mine is able to start on every 50 sek but for a limited number of apneas, I think he has done 12*50m on that time. (But he has a pb of 150m dynamic so he's a real good apneist)

When you get better you can decrease the start intervals.

The training gives a good CO2 tolerance and forces you get technically better.

I heard somebody did the 16x50m in 13'3X"...

Here in Vancouver, Laminar and I once tried 8x100m.

We didn't time it but the 100m dynamic was taking about 1'30 and then the rest was about 3'00", so 4'30 x 8 = 36 minutes!

I think the key in the 16x50m is to avoid lactic acid build up until the last 50m-100m.

I once did 6*100m but I did'nt take the time. It was shurely more then 36min

Eric I think you are right, the key seems to be: don't go too fast but not too slow either. I really think this is difficult..

Once I go only a little too fast when I do the intervals I have to increase the time drastically.

16*50 best time?

On www.aida-deutschland.de/rekorde.htm the German record is 13'.36"

I can't find any better results on the net. So that's an unofficial worldrecord I guess ?

Yes, the 13'36 is the same time I am talking about. Definitely the world record!
