I suppose I should chime in and let you all know how I maintain my special powers - though I'm not as old as Paul. I just started freediving again almost three years ago. I literally jumped in the water one day and thought "holy crap I almost forgot!" A friend of mine had been on about Tanya Streeter and I finally visited her website. The water here is many orders of magnitude clearer than when I was a kid and I jumped in off the breakwall in early spring. Huge schools of all species were racing all around me beneath some fairly hefty waves. It was a spectacular, effervescent celebration of life. From there I found DB and started sorting through the universe of beautiful gear and technique.
I dive alone or with my daughter in an area where it's a long swim into heavy boat traffic to get much beyond 40ft of depth. In the winter I pretty much own the bay but I'm also solo. So I haven't gone for depth yet - mostly working on stealth and endurance. I practiced yoga intensely starting at age 19 but began phasing it out a few years ago in favor of Old Yang style Tajiquan and, more recently; Bagua - a faster paced internal martial art with lots of interesting twisting back-bends and stuff - all done while walking around a circle. They both create a kind of efficiency that comes from deep relaxation and dissolving the ostensibly discreet sensed surface definitions of the body into the space through which it moves - sort of like the way birds seem to slip through holes in the wind. I'm diggin' bagua right now because it is more of an obvious physical workout. I'm wanting to get Pranayama going as well. I work a lot with COLD! Taiji and Bagua are both best done outdoors and I've been doing that year round for a few years now. Jon got me going on winter diving which I did all last winter in a 5 mil suit (3mil into mid-november!!)and this winter in my amazing 6 mil smoothskin - which has more than doubled my endurance. Other than that I enjoy dressing up like all the miss americas of history and crying myself to sleep over a cup of hot chocolate.

My bad. If you were NewYorkistani you wouldn't have felt insulted. Florida has allways been a cypher to me. I passed through it twice on the way somewhere - I remember a bad smell, some oranges, three huge catfish and a Harry Crews novel about a man who eats a ford pinto. Are you sure you're not from New York?

That's interesting. There is a south michigan too.
They have a lot of 'government' and 'cars'. I hitch-hiked through florida with a friend who shacked up with a jamaican prostitute and subsequently became schizophrenic. It seems like a very rich state, psychologically.
