Thanks. I forgot to put it when I started the poll.

Re: What kind of training do you do?

I did some apnea gym for a while, but it didn't seem to bring any real benefits...Only felt horrible.

I think with training too, moderation is the key. It's not about how bad it feels, it's about does it objectively develop your performance?

One good example is training when hung over. All you're doing is sub par performances that feel horrible. Sure, they feel like you made a maximum effort, but you really didn't. You made absolutely no progress, propably just hurt your self. So it would be better just to accept the fact that you're hung over and skip the day. Train another day...

No pain no gain is BS Yes, good training is usually "painful" (ie you feel you're really made an effort), but all pain is not necessarily good training...You got to look at your results. If you've done something religiously for 2 years and made no progress...Then why are you doing it?

Re: What kind of training do you do?

I lift weights, and ride a stationary bike (but not nearly enough). Frankly, stationary biking bores me to tears, so I don't do it nearly as often as I should....my shrinking pants will attest to that. In the summer I do ride my bike outdoors (as opposed to my stationary bike), and blade a bit. Dry tables bore me much like my stat. bike. As the season approaches, I'd like to get back in the water and do some wet statics to get going again. That said, I'm more into weights than anything else, but not necessarily for freediving. It's more habit than anything.

Re: What kind of training do you do?

I swim 2-3 times a week for aerobics and do some dynamic and negative practive at the same time. Apnea walking 3-4 times a week as summer approaches.

Along the lines of "no pain, no gain is BS." I don't get much opportunity to train dynamics intensely, no decent buddy. However, I train regularly, just come up when it feels like I need to breath, but not winded. The distance covered and time under keeps going up. The difference from a couple of years ago is huge.

That's true. If I've given something a reasonable try, and it doesn't make any difference, or it feels like it's doing more harm than good, I stop.

Re: What kind of training do you do?

I do dry static tables, go to the gym and I also go swimming and do dynamics (without fins) as much as possible.

Re: What kind of training do you do?

At the moment I only swim laps simply to stay in shape and do a few very easy dynamics without fins for fun. During the months of Nov. and Dec. I did a couple of CO2 tables per week and threw in a O2 table once in a while but I stopped during the christmas holidays and never started again, they were getting kind of boring. I also do a little apnea walking but nothing regular enough to be considered as training.

I find that swimming bores me to tears. It's worse than the gym, because at least in the gym I don't have to do the same thing for a long time. It's not the swimming itself that I mind, I would be happy outdoors, but the pool is so boring. The worst is lane swimming, which I don't do any more.

The best workout is one which has a purpose, like doing useful work or chasing something, but it's hard to find something like that every week!

My other best kind of training is short dynamics with short intervals in between. I don't do this a lot because it's hard to find a buddy who wants to do the same. Too much of it can lead to this...

What saves me from boredom in the pool is constantly working on my swimming style, just changing little details & trying them out - it gets me so concentrated that I'm surprised to reach the pool's end (dangerous in backstroke - hit my head a couple of times, going really fast with fins - ouch! )

Good one, Lucia! Great thread, too - thanks!
I also love the dymamic lap intervals, that's the cherry I save for last in any pool session. I train alone, so no extremes - no less than 5 breaths after each lap, at this point.

Re: What kind of training do you do?

Today I went swimming and it was much better. I had a whole lane to myself, so I did many laps and even some no-fins dynamic of up to 25m. That's my kind of swimming - warm pool, and a whole free lane!

Re: What kind of training do you do?

i've been pretty lax on my training, but i would normally go for swimming focussing on drills, skipping rope, running (on elliptical), some weights and rollerblading, street hockey, and frisbee tossing (when it's warm). fun stuff!
