What kind of training do you do?

I thought it would be interesting to see what kind of training is most popular, apart from pool and open water training.

I didn't include actual freediving because I assume that everyone here freedives.

You can vote for more than one option.

Re: What kind of training do you do?

I think it would have been interesting to see an option "none of the above". I would like to know how many people do no crosstraining what so ever. I know there are some and they are pretty good divers too...

Why thank you!
I was also interested in that.
So, if I do 0-12 apnea stair walkings per month (basically whenever I feel like it), one breathold per "session",
what do I check?

Re: What kind of training do you do?

Hi Lucia,
Having freediving up may have been worthwhile or having something seperate to see how many of us Freedivers myself included actually freedive on a regular basis. Summertime only here and even then I find it hard as no buddy locally so unless i go solo which I have but dont like I only get out 3-4 times in the summer. Where as I now swim or run 3 times a week with tables on an ad hoc basis when i get an urge to do them.

I tried, but it won't let me edit the poll.

I guess that counts as apnea walking.

Talking Re: What kind of training do you do?

Underwater hockey once a week and weights twice a week included in the weight routine is swimming ,sometimes, and other aerobic excersise, basic weight routine covers whole body with light to medium weight 20 reps three to four sets of each excersise. Weekends are spent doing as much hunting as possible but mostly ends up as one day depending on the weather.
Cheers and Save Diving
Ps some elbow excersise is a devinite must for every weekend

Re: What kind of training do you do?

Interesting results. Aerobic training is way ahead of the rest. Apnea in the gym is the least popular, maybe because of the risk of getting funny looks from other people, or collapsing over the equipment with a samba.

I go to the gym and swimming. I also do dry statics and tables.

I think you can tell a mod. what specifically you want to edit. I'm not sure it'll let the previous voters to vote again though.
I think it is different from apnea walking as CO2 builds faster and the total lactic acid production is much more IMO.

Re: What kind of training do you do?

I spearfish, freedive and that's basically it. Used to do the odd dry staic but pretty much only do them wet these days.

Occasionally I do do some aprea walking. Usually in my business suit, walking down the streets of Wellington - get a few very strange looks!

Re: What kind of training do you do?

Swimming + some interval dynamic (3 per week),
Occasional dry static tables (1-2 per week),
And a bit of interval apnea walking (hold 20 steps, breath 20 steps, etc.) when I find myself walking alone and in the mood for it.

I really don't believe in training my butt off, nor have the time or energy for that - I prefer to do things slow & easy, exploring & expanding my comfort zone gradually in really small steps that build confidence & calm. So far this works very well for me.

Since I've decided to get into this a few month ago, I haven't done any REAL SEA DIVING yet.

Re: What kind of training do you do?

I'm a huge fan of Static Running and or Walking. I'd say I push myself pretty hard when i train, but since I've never seen anyone train, I can't turly tell. I'm doing track now(hurdles, sprints, long jump),each weekand i go on like a 5-20 mile bike rides depending on weather conditions. I do like 2 block apnea sprints and then..*around 100+yrd apnea walks - i do about two-three of those.. to get more blood cells.. each time i do it, i'll go 1/10th longer, or more. i really enjoy them sprints beacuse you know you're doing something crazy when your legs are super tired after you runs... not enough 02, i'm guessing. big fan of underwater swimming, but since i'm solo.. i do like 50% of what i can.. don't push myself whatsoever.

when i know i've done a good work out is when my legs hurt, lol. it's like *wow, i get this tired after doing a track pratice, but this only took 30 mintes*

If I knew how to do static running, I'd probably be a huge fan of it as well - sounds just like me - running without doing anything! I'd just stay in bed & do it there!

But seriously, that's an awesome training that you do, XyseR, very, very impressive! I wouldn't last 5 minutes of that!
